Mona McArtor Scholarship
Beaver Local, Lisbon, Louisville, Salem, Sebring and West Branch are among area districts eligible to apply for the annual Mona McArtor Scholarship given out by Quota of Salem. The $500 scholarship is awarded to high school graduates pursuing a career in the speech/audiology field; call Susan Jackson at 330-257-5420.
Annual Family Feud event
East Palestine Eagles and the East Palestine Community Foundation are teaming up again to host the annual Family Feud event at the East Palestine Eagles #1506 Saturday, April 22, at 7 p.m. Applications are currently being accepted for teams that wish to play at the event. Teams consist of five players and the registration form can be picked up at the Eagles or by requesting one be sent by calling 330-853-8483. Applicants will need a team name. Cost is $50 per team. A cash prize will be provided. Players and spectators must be 21 years of age.
Look Nook book fair
The Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) Look Nook Gift Shop will hold a book fair featuring a wide selection of books and seasonal items at discounted prices from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The Look Nook is located next to the cafeteria on the hospital's ground floor. For information call 330-332-7252.
Drive-thru chicken dinner
Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave., North Lima, will hold a drive-thru chicken dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. (or sold out) April 13. Dinner will include a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and a brownie for $9. Reserve dinners by calling 330-549-2588.
Columbiana Library
The Columbiana Public Library will host a talk with author Gail S. Hetrick from 6 to 7 p.m. April 6. Hetrick is the author of "Just Kidding: Surviving the Chaos of Family Life," in which she shares her insights on humorous, everyday life happenings and mishappenings through marriage and parenting.
Rodman Library events
Those interested in growing their own produce this year and only have a small plot of space available will want to join Jennifer White from the Stark County Ohio State University Extension when she visits Rodman Public Library at 7 p.m. April 10. White, an urban programs educator in the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences, will give tips on how to get started in gardening. Those attending the program will learn strategies for small spaces and container gardening. White will also provide suggestions for vegetables and companion plants suitable for maximizing gardening space and growing season. Who are the people in your neighborhood? The Rodman Branch Library will help youngsters get to know a few of them during storytime sessions at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday between April 11 and May 30. With a theme of "All Together Now," a preview of the 2023 Summer Reading Program, each week of Who Are The People In Your Neighborhood Storytime will feature a guest speaker and a special activity. The scheduled guest speakers include: April 11 - Veterinarian Dr. Patricia Tucker (bring in a stuffed animal for a checkup); April 18 - Artist/entrepreneur Troy Myers from Hot Pots; April 25 - Alliance police officer Captain Akenra X; May 2 - Librarian Charlene Duro; May 9 - Farmer Eugene Miller; May 16 - A Counselor from CommQuest in honor of Mental Health Month; May 23 - Washington Township Fire Chief Craig Cobb; May 30 - Alliance Mayor Alan Andreani. Rodman Public Library is all revved up for a special teen event in April - the RPL MarioKart Tournament from 3 to 5 p.m. April 13. Open to teens, ages 12-18, prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers of the tournament which will feature a 1v1 format. All courses, vehicles and characters will be featured in the event. Players will alternate selecting courses and matches will be the best two out of three in the double-elimination tournament. No registration is required to compete. Maker Monday crafters will create a button flower shadow box when they meet April 17 at 7 p.m. in Rodman Public Library's Main Auditorium. Led by Nicole Brown, Maker Monday is an in-person craft program for adults that is held monthly on select Mondays. All materials are provided free of charge, thanks to Friends of Rodman Library, but space is limited and registration is required for each session.
