Police investigate death of St. Clair Twp. couple
ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP — St. Clair Township police officers were called March 24 to conduct a welfare check on a couple neighbors were concerned about after not seeing them for a couple of weeks.
When officers arrived to the residence in the 47000 block Summerset Road, they found the couple, an 80-year-old husband and his 73-year-old wife, dead in an upstairs bedroom. Officers also found a revolver in the room. There was no forced entry into the home.
There were obvious injuries. Police are investigating the deaths and the Columbiana County Coroner’s Office is still determining the cause of death.
St. Clair Township Police Chief Brian McKenzie told news partner WKBN-TV that officers believe the couple may have been deceased for some time based on indicators they found at the scene along with the last time anyone had seen them.
Police do not believe there is any danger to the public.
The victims’ identities are not being released at this time.
Calls to McKenzie have not yet been returned.
