Lisbon fire remains under investigation

By MARY ANN GREIER 2 min read

LISBON -- A fire that heavily damaged a home on state Route 517 early Friday and rekindled remains under investigation with no cause determined.

"We're not sure what the cause was yet," Lisbon Assistant Fire Chief Gilbert Flory said.

Firefighters received a 911 call at 2:33 a.m. about a house fire at 39417 state Route 517, which is located across the road from the Lisbon Assembly of God Church. Flory said the family of four, including homeowner Paul Solomon III, was already outside when the fire department arrived.

Other fire departments who responded included West Point, Hanover Township and New Waterford.

According to Flory, a male teen was taken to the hospital by the family for smoke inhalation and burns on his hands from trying to open the door. The family's two dogs and a cat perished.

Flory said it looked like the fire started in the basement below the kitchen because the whole floor was gone. The inside of the home sustained a lot of fire damage and heat damage. He said the attached garage wasn't damaged due to a block wall.

Firefighters had to return to the home after getting a call at 7:41 a.m. Friday that the fire had rekindled on the roof near the chimney.
