SALEM -- City Service-Safety Director Joe Cappuzzello has announced the construction schedule for the ongoing road projects for the week of Sept. 6.
Brick sidewalk repair and replacement has been initially completed for the Downtown Sidewalk Repair Project. However, a walk through to create a list of items for final review and assurance of quality will take place, weather permitting, the week of Sept. 13 with city personnel, representatives from the Ohio Department of transportation and the contractor, with the project planned to be completely finished by the end of September or early October.
The Ohio Department of Transportation has been supervising the progress of the entire project to ensure quality standards are maintained as $500,000 of the $600,000 cost of the project was paid by a grant through the department.
Cappuzzello noted that cleaning of any debris and any remaining issues from the project would be carried out and addressed in the coming weeks.
The Summer Paving Project is ready to begin the grinding phase tearing up the remaining damaged asphalt to allow the installation of a new surface on the roadway, and will begin the week of Sept. 6., weather permitting.
The process of grinding and replacement will be carried out in sections, with the initial batch expected to include Kennedy Drive from Southeast Boulevard to the dead end, Cleveland Street from Brooklyn Avenue to Salem Regional Medical Center, the Centennial Park parking lot, Carole Circle North of Merle Road, Orchard Avenue from Olive to Cedar Street, Cherry Street from Olive Street to Orchard Avenue, Short Street from Cambridge Sqaure to Summit Street, the city lot from East Pershing Street to Dry Alley, West Pershing from Dodge Drive to Sharp Street, and Dodge drive from West Pershing to West State Street.
This estimate bars weather complications, and if the project falls behind schedule or eclipses schedule an update will be posted. Weekly updates will be maintained on the project whenever possible.
Cappuzzello noted that traffic will be maintained while paving project work is in progress with traffic control personnel.
