SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1972 recently celebrated the golden anniversary of graduation.

The activities started on July 22 with a golf outing that was enjoyed by the golfers in the class. That afternoon dedicated volunteers gathered at the Salem Italian Club to decorate for the reunion the next day. Black and gold centerpieces adorned the tables. The centerpieces were made and donated by Sally Field Gaines and given as door prizes during the reunion. Black and red balloons and gold "50" balloons also decorated the room.

On the morning of July 23 the Quakertown Trolley took classmates to the high school for a tour. The trolley drove classmates by several of Salem's elementary schools and stopped at Sebo Stadium to view the brick the class donated.

Classmates from across the country - Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, New York, Connecticut, Wyoming, South Carolina, New Mexico and Georgia - gathered that evening at the Italian Club to reconnect and renew old friendships. A 50/50 drawing was held with half the proceeds going to the Salem Alumni Association. Barb Capel Shaffer, class historian, displayed scrapbooks and a Memory Book which honors deceased classmates. Shaffer has also been class coordinator for several years. She is stepping down from this position and Ray Fortune is stepping up to be the new class coordinator.
