SALEM-- The Salem Parks Department has an evening of family fun planned for the annual Fourth of July celebration at Waterworth Memorial Park.
The annual festivities will be July 3 from 5 to 9 p.m., with the annual fireworks display at around 9:30.
Multiple activities will be held in the outfields of Herman and Headland ball fields, including inflatable slide and strikers, a putt-putt golf course sponsored by Eyes for Olivia, cupcake decorating by the Whitestone Ministry Center Ladies, a photo booth by local photographer Brooklyn Kaufman, face painting, sponge bombs, and hula hooping sponsored by the Salem Head Start Center, sidewalk chalk drawing at the basketball court, and a DJ and free line dancing lessons sponsored by Social Stompers. There will also be a hot dog eating contest sponsored by the Salvation Army beginning at 7 p.m.
Concessions can be purchased from Two Sides and a Meat, and Debbie Cappa's food trucks.
The dog park will close at noon Sunday to set up for the fireworks display. The Sunset Boulevard parking lot, and the large end lot behind the Salem Community Center will both be available for parking and can be entered from Sunset Boulevard. A section of the Sunset Boulevard lot will be reserved for the Salem Fire Department, and will be barricaded off.
The Fire Department asks people only park in the parking lots and not on Sunset Boulevard, so they can more easily respond in the event of an emergency.
The Salem Highschool Girls Volleyball team will be selling snacks and patriotic novelties for a dollar each in the High School Parking lot starting at 5 p.m. for those who choose to view the fireworks there.
