County man faces additional charge following fatal hit and run
LISBON — The Salineville man already charged with three felonies in the death of a 13-year-old bicyclist last fall, including aggravated vehicular homicide, is now facing an additional charge for possession of cocaine.
The Columbiana County Grand Jury issued a superseding indictment late Wednesday afternoon against Donald E. White, 65, state Route 164, charging him with possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing or using cocaine on Oct. 24, 2021, along with the charges from the original indictment.
The original charges included aggravated vehicular homicide, a third-degree felony; and two charges of failure to stop after an accident, one a second-degree felony and the other a third-degree felony, all related to the Oct. 23, 2021 accident.
At this time, a status conference remains scheduled for June 27 before Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton, with a jury trial set for July 12.
Columbiana eighth grader Aiden Wollman, 13, was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle with another boy along state Route 164 on Oct. 23, 2021. Wollman was ejected from his bicycle, while the pickup truck driven by White left the scene.
The 1987 Chevrolet pickup belonging to White was later found abandoned with damage by troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol who were investigating the crash. White reportedly was found at his home and admitted to driving his pickup, stating he believed he had struck a mailbox.
The indictment noted that the accident caused the death of the teen and accused White of leaving the scene, further noting “he knew that the accident or collision resulted in the death of a person.”
