52nd annual Tri-State Pottery Festival begins today

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The 52nd annual Tri-State Pottery Festival will be held Thursday through Saturday in downtown East Liverpool. The festival will feature activities, musical entertainment on a main stage and events at the Museum of Ceramics. Activities and entertainment for all ages and interests, from a car and bike show to chalk art contests to an arm wrestling competition to a mustache and beard contest, will be featured.

Thursday, the opening ceremony kicks off at 10 a.m. on the museum's stairs. Activities throughout the day include a stuffed animal contest at Carnegie Library, a jump rope contest or a tour of Thompson House, behind the main KSU building. Doorknob contests will also be held Thursday for women or mixed doubles with a $5 entry fee, with other contests available the rest of the festival. Attendees can enjoy music at the main stage in the Masonic Temple parking lot from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday. More music will be featured Saturday from 11 a.m. until the 10 p.m. fireworks, which are sponsored by MasonColor, Brewster Procurement Group Inc./Shell, Ergon-West Virginia Inc. and Hermitage Thermal Services.

Other highlights over the next two days include business window judging and awards Friday afternoon, the Joe Wells Jr. Memorial 5K Walk/Run early Saturday morning (registration begins at 7 a.m. and start time is at 8 a.m.) and the pottery festival parade Saturday. Registration, line-up and judging starts at 4:30 p.m. at Riverview Florist at Sixth and Walnut and the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. Festival royalty this year include queen Paige Grimes, maid-of-honor Dacianelle Andrews and princesses Kendra Jones, Angelica Jones and Riley Cox.

The Museum of Ceramics will be open 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday and for extended hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Reduced admission of $1 during the festival is being offered and the museum is sponsoring a free ceramic city art show in the Venture Real Estate Gallery Thursday through Saturday 2 to 7 p.m. A photography and art show will also be on display during the festival inside the high school alumni clock tower.
