Salem man facing 80 counts for child porn

LISBON — A 60-year-old Salem man is facing 80 counts mostly involving child pornography after he allegedly attempted to meet an undercover officer he believed to be a 14-year-old boy for sexual conduct behind a Salem business.

Brian Donald Hough, 60, Monroe Avenue, Salem, was indicted by the Columbiana County Common Pleas Court jury this week and charged with importuning, a fifth-degree felony; attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony; and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

Additionally, he is charged with 10 counts of fourth-degree felony charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, for allegedly having, buying or controlling obscene materials with a child as one of the participants.

Finally, the indictment charges Hough with 67 counts of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance, each a fifth-degree felony. Those charges are for images or materials depicting naked children.

The 77 counts connected to child pornography are for items allegedly found in his possession on March 7.

Investigators with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force reportedly became aware of Hough’s alleged illegal activity after receiving a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program on Feb. 18, which said Hough was allegedly downloading child pornography utilizing the Microsoft Bing platform, specifically mentioning a boy who appeared to be 12 or 13 years old, naked, including the exposure of his private area.

Detective Dan Haueter of the MVHTTF, portraying himself as a 14-year-old boy, engaged in an undercover conversation with Hough, who at some point allegedly solicited sexual conduct from him. Hough then reportedly left his home on Monroe Street and attempted to meet the boy.

Hough has been released on a $100,000 recognizance bond.

Starting at $2.99/week.
