Pioneer Village in Beaver Creek State Park will begin its 2022 season Saturday with activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For the kids, Kevin Fodrey and crew will be on hand with his bass boat. Bring your camera for some great pictures of your kids on the boat as they learn about the boat and boat safety. There will be a friendly casting competition in the pond with prizes and four rods and reels will be given away. There won't be any fishing this year since the pond was recently drained for repairs and the fish have not yet been restocked.
Volunteer John will be displaying his furs and other mountain man gear for the kids in a hands-on learning experience and all are invited to make a fairy garden with Debbie. There will also be activities in the schoolhouse for the kids. As always, all activities are free.
In addition to the kids' activities, the village will be operating. Corn meal and grits will be ground at Gaston's Mill and they will be available for sale along with flour ground in the mill. Visit the blacksmith's shop to see what is being made on the forge. There will be a quilting demonstration on the second floor of the mill along with the permanent museum exhibits there.
There will be hot dogs and drinks for sale at the covered bridge for a quick lunch. Drinks and ice cream are available at the trading post. The trading post also has an expanded farmstead display, tee shirts available for sale and fully stocked toy shelves.
Pioneer Village is maintained and operated by the volunteer members of Friends of Beaver Creek State Park. The park is located at 12013 Echo Dell Road, East Liverpool.
