LISBON -- No charges have been filed against Alyssa McGuire, the girlfriend of murder suspect Justin Givens and step-daughter of the woman he is suspected of shooting last Friday, MaryAnn McGuire.

Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin indicated over the weekend deputies had planned on filing a charge of endangering children against Alyssa McGuire. However, as the investigation continued this week no charge was filed against her at this time. She was eventually released from custody.

McGuire, 28, and her two children were found with Givens, hiding in an area of Salineville called white culvert on Saturday morning, less than 24 hours after the shooting of MaryAnn McGuire. Both adults were taken into custody, while the children were placed with other family members by Children Services.

Givens, 27, has been charged with having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony, for a rifle reportedly found when a pickup truck belonging to him was searched in connection to the homicide. He is being held in the county jail on a $1 million bond and has a preliminary hearing scheduled in County Municipal Court on Monday.

McLaughlin has indicated the sheriff's office intends to file murder charges against him as well.

Starting at /week.
