Pa. man charged with sex crimes

SALEM — A Pennsylvania man was charged on Thursday after allegedly attempting to buy sex in an undercover operation by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with assistance from the Salem Police Department.

Joseph Schratt, 49, Canonsburg, Pa., allegedly responded to an ad posted on a website known to be used for the solicitation of prostitution. Schratt reportedly agreed to pay $100 for sexual acts and arrived at a pre-determined meeting location in Salem, where he was detained by agents and transported to the Salem Police Department.

Schratt consented to having his iPad searched and was charged with engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools, both first-degree misdemeanors. He was summoned to appear in County Municipal Court on the charges on Jan. 13.
