OWDA requests increase in water rates for East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE--Village Manger Mark McTrustry announced Monday during council the Ohio Water Development Agency is requesting the village increase water rates. Water rates would increase by $6.25. OWDA is requesting the increased rates to ensure the village will be able to pay back the funds required for recent water line improvements. Customers could start seeing the increase reflected in March.
Former Mayor Marge E. Zuch was presented with a placard showing appreciation during council Monday. Zuch said she truly enjoyed everything about serving the community and employees she worked with listened and did their best.
"We have a great community for our schools and others," Zuch commented.
Administrative assistant Misti J. Martin reminds residents city administrative offices will be closed for Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday.
Letters of interest for various boards and commission are due Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. Letters of interest can be dropped inside the office or by using the drop box outside the municipal building.
McTrustry confirmed the first phase of construction on the EQ Basin is complete. A new pump and generator are set to be installed along with fabric on the fence adjacent to homes. The second phase of construction will continue next spring.
