Crestview schools show positive five-year forecast

NEW WATERFORD — The Crestview school district is projected with a positive cash balance through the next five years.

The school board this week approved the five-year financial forecast presented by Treasurer Charlene Mercure that shows a positive cash balance throughout. It starts at $3.4 million this year and falls to just under $1.16 million in the final one. The forecast also avoids deficit spending the first two years, but dips to $361,000 in the third and just over $1.33 million in the final one.

Mercure noted the forecast is subject to change based on legislation, enrollment and economic factors.

In other business, the board accepted the retirement of fifth-grade teacher Thomas Watson, effective the end of the school year; granted a one-year limited contract to Michael Baughman as custodian; and approved pupil activity contracts to Kendall Hancox for seventh/eighth-grade winter sports cheerleader advisor, L. Scott Hughes for seventh-grade grade boys basketball, Lily Marr for varsity/junior varsity winter sports cheer advisor, Derek McElhaney for middle school wrestling, Donna Fitch for eighth-grade girls basketball and Connor Hughes for freshman basketball.

The board also accepted as non-paid volunteers Tylor Almy for wrestling and Jordan Graham and Ronald Navarra for swim and hired Donald Guy for girls basketball clock/scoreboard operator and Chris Hancox for boys basketball clock/scoreboard operator.

Additionally the board revised the substitute employee hourly wage schedule, effective Jan. 1, to $10 for secretaries, $11 for cooks, $11 for cafeteria cashiers, $11 for cafeteria servers, $11 for custodians and $10 for technology; accepted donations of $250 from the First United Methodist Church for the middle school and $50 from M. Buttura for a game ball; and sanctioned indoor track as a club sport with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) for the 2021-2022 school year.

The board also presented Rebel Pride awards to John Beilhart, Dave Ray and Richard Stelts and held a reception for the district’s state runner-up soccer team prior to the meeting.
