LISBON -- Many employees of the county will have a new healthcare benefit through the County Employee Benefit Consortium.
During Wednesday's meeting, the county commissioners authorized Commissioner Tim Weigle to sign up for the program on behalf of the county through a broker.
After the meeting, Weigle said he has been speaking with and received presentations from several health benefit groups but determined CEBCO will be the insurance pool the county will be joining starting on Jan. 1, 2022.
According to CEBCO's website, the addition of Columbiana County will total 41 counties utilizing their services for health insurance and wellness advocacy. While attending a recent annual renewal meeting for other county's currently utilizing CEBCO's services, Weigle said they did not hear any negative feedback.
The change will be for all county employees except for the county health department, county engineer's office and the board of developmental disability employees.
Instead of a flexible bill that the county currently has that changes from week to week, the CEBCO program will give the county a fixed monthly cost, stability that will make it easier to project the county's expenses each month.
Additionally, Crystal Siembida-Boggs, county deputy clerk, said the CEBCO program will include a wellness program to provide resources and encourage employees to work toward their own well being.

-- Commissioners approved the permission for Darryl Quesenberry to hunt on the county home road property.
-- Commissioners approved a request not to have a hearing regarding a liquor permit request for Hometown Store, LLC in Knox Township.
-- Lisbon Mayor Peter Wilson asked commissioners to consider naming the Square of Lisbon in honor of Louis Kinney, the founder of what was known as New Lisbon in 1803.
