SALEM -- Salem resident Melinda Wilms, who was announced as a hero by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission earlier this summer, will receive the Carnegie Medal at 11 a.m. Monday in council chambers at Salem City Hall.
The ceremony will include representatives of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, Rep. Bill Johnson, R, Sixth District, and Salem Mayor John Berlin, along with the honoree. The city is welcoming anyone who wants to attend the event.
Wilms is being honored for her actions on July 29, 2019 when she saved the life of a 12-year-old boy who was drowning at Mosquito Lake.
