The Back to School Clothes and Shoes Voucher Program will offer one voucher per qualifying student to be redeemed for shoes and clothing items only at the Salem Wal-Mart located at 2875 E. State Street. Vouchers will be given in the amounts of $55 per Head Start through 3rd grade students and $70 per 4th through 8th grade students.

“We feel very blessed to be able to offer this program to families in Salem again. This is our second year after taking the reigns of the program from Salem’s Church Women United” said Executive Director Scott Lewis. “Our goal is for those children to go to school on their first day with their heads held high and full of self-confidence. We know what a difference a new outfit or new shoes can make in the life of a child and were happy to help.”

Families in need can sign-up at The Brightside Project located at 483 E. Pershing St. from 2-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Parent/guardian(s) must provide two proofs of being a Salem resident as well as each child’s birth certificate and each child in attendance can choose a backpack full of school supplies.
