EP police probe fatal train accident

EAST PALESTINE -- A train versus pedestrian fatal accident is under investigation by the East Palestine Police Department. At 10:33 p.m. Tuesday, police were advised by Norfolk Southern of the incident in the area of West Main Street.

Members of the East Palestine police and fire departments responded to the scene. The victim, in his late teens or early 20s with dark hair wearing a red T-shirt and tennis shoes, was found in the area. The coroner's office investigator was called to the scene. The victim has not been positively identified and the body has been sent to Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office for identification and toxicolgy tests. Anyone with information regarding the victim or potential information for next of kin should contact the EP Police Dept. at 330-426-4341. Lt. Don Johnson is leading the investigation.

Also, while investigating the accident, three stowaways were discovered on the train and arrested for criminal trespassing. Transported to the county jail were: 26-year-old Ethan M. Helmstadter, 20-year-old Nicolas A. Gunderson and 25-year-old Lauren Emma Mari Wagner.
