EAST LIVERPOOL -- Authorities are still probing a Saturday night crash that sent a pickup plummeting off a Jennings-Randolph Bridge offramp and below to the railroad tracks.
According to the initial crash report, Daniel R. McCartney, 42, of Georgetown, Pa., had been ejected from his vehicle through the windshield, after allegedly losing control of his vehicle while merging onto the state Route 30 of-ramp from Route 39. McCartney struck a support beam and light pole before his pickup fell to the railroad tracks shortly before 10:32 p.m. Saturday near River Road and Mulberry Avenue.
He was transported by EL/ASI for suspected serious injuries by Stat Medevac, which transported him to UPMC.
The investigating officer estimates that McCartney was going 70 mph at the time of the crash, which is 20 mph above the speed limit.
No further information was available about any possible charges against McCartney or his condition at press time.
