Beaver names new AD

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local has named a full-time athletic director for next school year. The school board voted unanimously during their monthly meeting to approve the hiring of Robert Beam for next school year. Beam will be replacing Mike McKenzie, who has served as athletic director while being the high school’s assistant principal since 2018. Superintendent Eric Lowe said that having a full-time athletic director will allow for positive change in the district’s athletics.

“We’re excited to have him on board, and I think having a full time athletic director will allow us to change some things,” Lowe said.

In other personnel matters, the board approved the hiring of Jenny Hanson as a speech and language pathologist and Darrah Thurik as a substitute bus driver for next school year.

In other business, the board approved:

— The list of prospective graduates for the Beaver Local High School class of 2021.

— The non-renewal of all substitutes approved on an “as needed basis” or an extended time for next school year as of June 30. Substitutes interested in being considered for the 2021-2022 school year should place such in writing to the superintendent prior to the start of next school year.

–The district’s membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for next school year.
