BELOIT - West Branch students will not be permitted to attend all remote classes next year.
Superintendent Micki Egli reported this week Warrior Academy will only be available to students in grades 6-12. Students will have to apply for entrance, which will only be granted to those in good academic standing.
Students who do participate in Warrior Academy will be required, at the very least, to take all tests and quizzes in the Warrior Academy lab, Egli said.
Students in grades K-9 will be required to attend in-person instruction.
Egli said the Ohio Department of Education is not allowing a fully remote model of instruction next year. Districts are required to instead use one of four models: alternative school, blended learning, credit flexibility or an innovative education pilot program. Students will be required to spend a specified amount of time in a supervised location away from their home, which districts can determine.
Egli said data shows remote students are not progressing at the rate of in-person students, so the goal is to bring all students back to class next year. She said she is recommending the blended learning option because she believes it will serve eligible students the best.
"[The administrative team feels] students in grades K-5 are best served in-person," Egli said.
Egli said the remote learning plan for next school year must be submitted to the ODE by July 1.
She also said the plan is subject to change depending on the future guidelines regarding the pandemic.
