WELLSVILLE — The village of Wellsville received a generous donation from Scott Curry of South Field Energy which will go to the village’s Veterans Park renovation project.

In 2019, it was suggested by state Rep. Tim Ginter that the village apply for a $50,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources for the Wellsville Veterans Park. Tonda Bratt, a volunteer on the project, completed an application, along with a project scope and design.

“We were honored to be considered for this opportunity and blessed to receive $25,000 based upon our Project Scope, during a year with such uncertainties,” Bratt said in a press release. “Due to the fact that our budget has been reduced, we are reaching out to the community to help the Veterans Park complete the original plans as closely as possible. It is through the generosity of our local community that we will successfully honor the veterans that served our country with pride.”

Our plans include lighting, fencing, pavers, 10-12 stone pillars, benches and a new memorial designed with a battlefield cross, military emblems, and the attributes of a soldier. All existing memorials will remain in the park. This park represents a rich history for the Village.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Veterans Park can make donations payable to the Village of Wellsville, 1200 Main St., Wellsville, Ohio 43968. Please designate the Wellsville Veterans Park on the check.
