Shoes will give kid a service dog

The Community Resource Center, 940 Pennsylvania Ave., East Liverpool, is collecting new and gently used shoes to help raise funds for a service dog for a 10-year-old Austistic boy who would greatly benefit from having an assistance animal. Donors names will be entered into a drawing for a free gift certificate. For information call 330-385-1305.

Hikers will take to Hellbender

The Columbiana County Park District will hold a spring hike at noon Saturday starting at Hellbender Bluff Park’s Lones Road entrance (GPS coordinates are 40.70836,-80.64789). Geologist and wild flower expert Cheryl Mattevi, mycologist Walt Sturgeon and park lore expert Mike West will lead the hike, which will focus on spring flowers, migrating birds and mushrooms. The hike is moderate in difficulty. For more information, contact the park office at (330) 424-9078.

West Township will clean up

West Township trustees will sponsor a dumpster day for township residents only from 8 a.m. to noon at the township hall.

Guilford Lake Civic meeting set

The Guilford Lake Civic Association will hold its first meeting of the year at 7 p.m. April 29 at the Ruritan Hall on state Route 172. Park manager Karl Mattern and Larry Hunter of the Purple Martin Club will attend. The July 4th boat parade will also be discussed. All are welcome, masks are optional and social distancing will be observed.

Shredding paper, collecting food

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Stouffer Realty will host a shred event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 2789 E. State St. The free event is limited to four boxes. As part of the event, people are being asked to bring non-perishable food that will be donated to the Salem Community Pantry. for information call 330-337-9330.

Hunting Club award available

The Salem Hunting Club is still accepting applications for the Lowell Iden Larry Iler Memorial Scholarship. Multiple scholarships are being awarded to individuals who meet the criteria. Full information and applications may be found at the club’s website (www.salemhuntingclub.com) or call Janet Iden at 330-332-5765. The deadline is the end of May. The club has also planned a fundraiser fried turkey dinner at 5 p.m. May 22 at the club, 549 N. Indiana Ave. Dine in or take out available. Cost is $10 at the door. There are raffle tickets still available ($5 each or $20 for five) for various firearms. The list of guns is available on the club’s website. Winners will need to pass a background check prior to receiving it. Tickets are available at the club or from club officers. Call 330-831-9847.

Vaccine clinic set in Columbiana

Salem Regional Medical Center is announcing a free, by appointment only Covid-19 vaccine clinic from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at the Columbiana Family Care Center (CFCC) at Firestone Farms. The Moderna vaccine will be administered by appointment only to individuals age 18 and over; call 330-332-7511. Those eligible to receive a vaccine will be called back to schedule an appointment as long as there are still available openings.

Saxon scholarship available

The Salem Saxon Scholarship Fund trustees have announced that 2021 scholarship application forms are now available at the guidance offices of Salem, West Branch and United Local. All students who meet eligibility are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and plan to attend or be enrolled in a post high school educational program in the fall of 2021. The completed scholarship applications and required attachments are due no later than June 1. This is the 35th year that the fund has been awarding scholarships to area high school students. The scholarships are funded through donations and other fundraising events. Donations may be made in honor of a student or as a memorial to a loved one.
