Trial dates set for county coroner

LISBON — Columbiana County Coroner Dr. George Wilson, who is charged with domestic violence following an alleged incident involving a woman at his home in December, could face a jury in June in County Municipal Court.

On Friday morning, visiting Judge David Stucki met with visiting Prosecutor Jeffrey Jakmides and defense attorney Charles Amato, selecting dates for upcoming hearings regarding the case. A pretrial was scheduled for June 16, followed by a jury trial on June 23.

Jakmides reported to Stucki he has provided Amato with a video from officers from that day and photographs of the injury reportedly caused by Wilson.

According to reports at the time, Wilson, 50, was charged after Salem police were called to his Jennings Avenue home, where the woman claimed he punched her in the face. The officer observed black and blue bruising around her right eye.

Wilson had denied hitting her and claimed she was lying. The report stated both were “highly intoxicated.”

A no contact order remains in effect pending the hearings in June to protect the alleged victim, Kelli Winter. The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor offense, which carries a maximum possible sentence of six months in the county jail and $1,000 fine.
