Salem library utilizing new tool

Submitted material SALEM — Have you ever finished a great book and wanted to find more just like it? Or wanted to help a child find just the right book to read? Salem Public Library now offers NoveList, a free web-based tool to help readers match up with the books that are right for them. NoveList connects readers to their next book by making recommendations for what to read next. One of the most popular elements is read-alikes. This feature suggests titles that are ‘just like’ other titles. If you’ve just finished a great book, log into NoveList and find great read-alikes. There are also read-alikes for authors and series. It contains lists of recommended reads and award-winning books. It covers titles for all ages from the youngest readers to adults. Salem City Schools will work with the library to promote this new resource. By identifying the right books for every reader, it helps younger readers achieve reading success. Parents, teachers and students can search by age, reading level, grade and more. This new service is made possible by a grant from the Salem Community Foundation (SCF)’s Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program. The Salem Community Foundation directly sponsors the YIP program and encourages the students to focus on the meaning of philanthropy and the importance of teamwork while assessing the needs of the Salem community. The grant to purchase the NoveList research tool was provided through the Caplan/Bloomberg Fund, established in 1983, at the Salem Community Foundation. The mission of the Salem Community Foundation is to assess and meet changing community needs and interests through financial awards, and to assist donors to build and preserve enduring assets for charitable purposes. How wonderful to see these students learn how the Salem Public Library and YIP together can have an exciting impact on students of all ages through NoveList.” YIP members include Wilson Corbisello, Kyla Jamison, Libby Ripley, Hannah Bowers, Emma Hochadel, Andrew Wilson, Collin Helmick, Angela McCracken and Chloe Wilhelm. Salem Community Foundation representatives Melissa Costa and Brittany Zamarelli, along with Buckeye School first-grade teacher Ryan Barrett, serve as YIP mentors.
