LISBON -- Voters will have very few choices May 4 when Columbiana County holds its primary election.
Wednesday was the filing deadline.
Only two levy renewals and one liquor option will appear on the ballot.
Voters in Unity Township will vote on the renewals of a five-year 1.5-mill levy for the fire department and a five-year 2-mill levy for the road department.
Voters in the Salem 2-A precinct will vote on whether or not the Sunday sale of alcohol will be permitted at the Suburban Market on New Garden Avenue.
Also, only 14 partisan candidates, most of them incumbents, filed for candidacy by the Wednesday deadline, meaning the majority of the Nov. 2 general election ballot spots will be filled by candidates who identify as independents or will remain empty on election day.
As of now, all the partisan candidates are running unopposed. Independent candidates can file for candidacy until 4 p.m. May 3.

Mayor: incumbent Rick Noel (R)
Council, 3 to nominate from each party: incumbents Daniel P. Bekar (R) and Amanda J. Banner (R)
East Liverpool
President of Council: no partisan candidates filed.
Treasurer: no partisan candidates filed.
Council at Large, 3 to nominate from each party: incumbent John T. Mercer (D) and Robert Nizer Jr. (D)
1st Ward Council: no partisan candidates filed.
2nd Ward Council: incumbent Fred C. Rayl (D)
3rd Ward Council: no partisan candidates filed.
4th Ward Council: no partisan candidates filed, incumbent Scott Barrett (I) (not certified until after the May election and are placed directly on the general election ballot)
Salem
President of Council: incumbent Thomas F. Baker (R)
Treasurer: Tod A. Mumpire (R)
Council at Large, 3 to nominate from each party: incumbents Sal Savino (R), Jacob Gano (R) and Andrew Null (R)
Leetonia
Council, 4 to nominate from each party: incumbent William G. Garlough (D)
Lisbon
Council, 4 to nominate from each party: Melissa Hiner (R)
Board of Public Affairs, 1 from each party: no partisan candidates filed.
Wellsville
