LEETONIA -- The Leetonia school board this week approved a contract with the teachers union for the next school year.
The board approved a one-year agreement with the Leetonia Education Association for the 2021-2022 school year. The contract is a rollover of the current contract which includes a 2 percent increase in base salary.
In other business, the board approved the school calendars for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.
The 2021-2022 calendar includes a first day for students on Aug. 23, last day on May 27 and graduation on Saturday, May 28. The 2022-2023 calendar includes a first day for students on Aug. 22, last day on May 26 and graduation on Saturday, May 27.
Superintendent Dennis Dunham presented the two years for approval to provide families the opportunity to plan ahead.
Also at the meeting, the board approved a $10,000 stipend from the Columbiana County Health Department for school nurse Melanie Stelts for services regarding the Covid-19 pandemic from June 2020 through June 2021, to be split between wage and benefits.
The board also granted supplemental coaching contracts for the spring to Michelle Long for junior high track head, Anthony Fuller for weightlifting assistant, Nick Hulea for weightlifting head, Jacob Wick for baseball assistant volunteer, Missy Brock for softball head and John McIlduff for softball assistant volunteer.
Additionally the board granted permission for band director Randy Rodik to start planning a trip for the band to Disney World in 2023 and accepted donations of $100 from the John Woods Family for the Woods Family Scholarship Fund, $400 from Humtown Products to the Stadium Project Fund, $421 from the Leetonia Athletic Booster Association for boys basketball shoes, $1,000 from Marie Evans Miller Agency Inc. for the Down on Main Street Fund, $100 from Dave Hosack for the Student Assistance Fund and $1,000 from Cleone Smith for the Ed Smith Scholarship Fund.
