Band holding fruit sale
The Salem High School Pride of Salem marching band is holding its annual fruit sale through Oct. 31 featuring assorted boxes of Pee Jay's Fresh Fruit which includes California navel and Florida juice oranges, tangelos, red grapefruit, red delicious apples, anjou pears, golden pineapples, trio and citrus mix boxes; assorted cheesecakes including plain, chocolate medley, and fruit sampler varieties; plus specialty holiday gift baskets. All proceeds generated from the sale are used toward student activities, incidental purchases and group travel expenses. Sportsmen serving up chicken
The Beaver Creek Sportsmen's Club in Washingtonville will serve a barbecue chicken dinner from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. The dinner also will be held Saturday, Oct. 24. Times are 4-7 p.m. each day. The menu includes a large boneless chicken breast, potato, green beans, cole slaw and roll. Cost is $9 for dark meat, $10 for for white meat. People can dine in or carryout. Preorders can be made at 330/921-9947.
A choice: meat loaf or ham loaf
The Salem United Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway, will be selling meat loafs and ham loafs. Orders must be in by Monday, Oct. 12; call the church office, 337-9531. People can leave a message if no one is there. Food will be picked up under the south portico from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Cost is $7 for a one-pound loaf and $14 for a two-pound loaf. Proceeds will go to the church mission project.
Special hours at Good as New
The Good as New Shop at the Methodist Church in Columbiana will hold special hours on two Sundays this month: 1-4 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 25. Featured are men's and women's clothing. The shop also is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
Tables open for oldies show
The East Palestine Eagles will have the second oldies dinner show this Saturday. Tables of two, four, six, eight and 10 are still available. To reserve a table, visit the club or call 853-8483. Doors open at 5:15 with dinner at 6 and the show at 7.

Join the Salem Library online via Zoom at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 as we dive into some of the tips and tricks you can use to keep your kitchen running like clockwork when everything else feels out of control. Denni Dattilio is a professional organizer and owner of Practical Organizing by Denni, in Columbiana. Denni's goal is to help her clients make the house they have into the home they love by clearing clutter and establishing systems that work with every organizing style. Denni specializes in working with people who have hoarding tendencies and other brain-based disorders.
St. John plans turkey feast
St John the Evangelist Parish in Summitville will host its annual turkey dinner with all the trimmings in a carryout/drive thru format on Sunday Oct. 18. Times are noon to 3 p.m. or until sold out. Cost is $12. Dinners can be picked up in front of the social hall at 16017 Smith Road.
