PARIS TOWNSHIP -- A Minerva man was killed in a three-car crash on Christmas Eve.
Joshua Hiles, 29, died in the crash at about 9 p.m. on U.S. Route 30 in Paris Township, Stark County, the Canton Repository reported. It was very foggy that night.
According to the highway patrol, Hiles was westbound on Route 30 in a 2000 Lincoln Continental when he lost control on a curve. The vehicle went left of center and collided with an eastbound 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Kenneth Diehl, 57, of Minerva.
According to the patrol, the Lincoln was torn in half and Hiles ejected onto the road. Diehl's SUV went off the right side of the road and into an embankment.
The patrol said Franklyn Brooks of Lisbon was also eastbound. His 2018 Hyundai Sonata hit the front half of the Hiles vehicle, went left of center and struck Hiles.
Hiles was pronounced dead at the scene by the Stark County medical examiner's office. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
Diehl and a passenger were taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton with non-life threatening injuries.
Brooks and three passengers in his vehicle were treated at the scene and released.
The accident remains under investigation by the patrol.
