LISBON -- Judge Tim McNicol retained his seat at Columbiana County Municipal Court and will be joined by Katelyn Dickey, who will take over the courtroom currently held by retiring Judge Mark Frost.
Dickey, a Republican, far outspent any candidate running for judge in a year-long campaign that included victories in both the primary election and the general election.
"It's been a very long year of campaigning and we knocked on thousands of doors," Dickey said of her campaigners. "I'm very thankful for all their help."
Dickey received 58 percent of the votes as she defeated K. Bret Apple, who previously served as judge in the Southwest Area Court before the courts merged. She had previously defeated Vito Abruzzino in the primary.
McNicol received more than 75 percent of the votes to easily hold off Heaven Guest, a Minerva resident who practices law in Stark County.
"I'd like to thank the voters for showing faith in me and what we're doing at the court," McNicol said, adding that is in part to the good work of the staff.
He looks forward to continuing the services they are providing, including the drug court docket.
Additionally, McNicol said he wanted to thank his family for their support and the Republican Party leadership for their help.
McNicol said he would also like to congratulate Dickey on her victory.
"I look forward to working with her," McNicol said. "I think she will make an excellent judge."
Dickey, who spent election night at home with family and close friends, said she also looks forward to working with McNicol and for the people of Columbiana County.
