Grand Jury
LISBON - Two individuals were served with secret indictments out of the Columbiana County Grand Jury Friday.
Cristin M. Murphy, 48, Cleveland, is charged with possession of heroin and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, both fifth-degree felonies, for allegedly being in possession of the drugs July 8, 2025.
Brandi Lou Hissom, 51, McKinnon Avenue, East Liverpool, is charged with illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified government facility, a third-degree felony, and possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, for an incident June 25.

LISBON – In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing and pretrial were set Aug. 12 for Vashist Gadela, 35, West Fifth Street, Erie, Pennsylvania, charged with fourth-degree felony theft by deception and a misdemeanor charge of possessing criminal tools for allegedly scamming a Columbiana resident by leading them to believe they were buying gold coins totaling $124,665 in value "to secure their assets" and delivering them to a federal agent who referred to themselves as a Bernardo Pillot from the United States Marshal Service. The alleged scam occurred over the course of two incidents in June. Fifteen gold coins totaling $69,855 in value were purchased on June 3 and given to a courier on June 6 in Columbiana, and 12 gold coins totaling $54,810 in value were purchased on June 8 and delivered at an Austintown business on June 13. After becoming aware of the scam and reporting it to law enforcement on June 22, a fake cashier's check was made for $84,400 and sent to the scammer on July 31. A third package of gold coins was to be delivered at the Columbiana Library on Aug. 6 with a specific code. After allegedly receiving the package, Gadela was stopped and taken into custody by undercover officers in Columbiana and had the cellular device allegedly used to arrange the criminal acts and a radio frequency scanner in his possession at that time.
A preliminary hearing and pretrial were set Aug. 12 for Braylen Russell, 19, Oak Orchard Avenue, Blacklick, Ohio, charged with fourth-degree felony carrying concealed weapons and receiving stolen property, fifth-degree felony obstructing official business, and misdemeanor charges of falsification and possessing drug paraphernalia for allegedly telling officers he was a juvenile when they approached him after a verbal argument with a woman and fleeing from officers on foot when they attempted to identify him and allegedly possessing a black scale with an unknown residue and a concealed and loaded firearm which had been reported as stolen out of Pickaway County at that time on Aug. 6 in East Liverpool. Russell also allegedly provided officers with a false name and date of birth after being caught following a brief foot pursuit.
A preliminary hearing and pretrial were set Aug. 17 for William Santimarino, 37, Township Road, Hammondsville, charged with fourth-degree felony failure to comply and misdemeanor charges of expired operator's license, reckless operation, and expired registration, for allegedly fleeing from officers for approximately 4.64 miles at speeds reaching 60 mph when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop in East Liverpool on Aug. 7
A preliminary hearing was set Aug. 12 for Thomas Hurst, 72, Sell Road, Salem, charged with failure to certify change of address, a first-degree felony, for allegedly failing to notify the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office prior to changing his address as required following a 1987 conviction for rape and gross sexual imposition. Hurst is alleged to have been residing at a property in Salem for a week and a half without notice.
A preliminary hearing was set Aug. 26 for Christopher Chadwick, 27, Brooklyn Avenue, Salem, charged with fourth-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer for allegedly fleeing from officers at speeds of 45 mph in a 25-mph zone for approximately 1.5 miles when they attempted a traffic stop in Hanoverton on July 26.
Michelle Kerr, 43, Elvina Street, Leavitsburg, was sentenced to 60 days in jail with 55 days suspended and credit for five days served and fined $250 for criminal mischief amended from domestic violence for flipping a hot grill onto a woman's legs causing burns to their inner thighs and both legs in East Palestine on July 25.
Antonio Jordon, 32, Vancouver, Washington, was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 135 days suspended and credit for five days served and fined $400 for failure to comply and loud exhaust for fleeing from officers until their vehicle was involved in a traffic accident on state Route 164 when they attempted a traffic stop in Lisbon on June 26. Two counts of failure to obey traffic control devices were dismissed.
Kobe Hayden, 27, Myrtle Avenue, Youngstown, was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 88 days suspended and credit for two days served and fined $750 for engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools for arranging to meet with an undercover agent from the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in Salem on July 8 for sexual activity in exchange for currency and possessing the cellular device used to arrange the criminal act at that time.
A pretrial was set Aug. 17 for Gregory Virden, 35, Wayne Drive, East Liverpool, charged with endangering children, possession of drug abuse instrument, and possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly having an uncapped syringe, a spoon with liquid, a large torch lighter, multiple additional spoons with residue, two crack pipes, a meth pipe and multiple "tear offs" within the only bathroom of a residence shared with two juvenile children in St. Clair Township on July 19.
A pretrial was set Aug. 24 for James Maxey, 19, Belmont Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with domestic violence for allegedly threatening to slit the throat of a woman and her family in East Liverpool on Aug. 6.
A pretrial was set Aug. 26 for Robert McLaughlin, 66, Lincoln Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with assault for allegedly pushing a woman to the ground in East Liverpool on July 24.
A pretrial was set Aug. 24 for Brian Stowers, 61, Annesley Road, East Liverpool, charged with aggravated menacing for allegedly threatening to harm a man with a firearm in St. Clair Township on Aug. 5
A pretrial was set Oct 14 for Andrea Cabrera, 25, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem, charged with domestic violence and driving under suspension for allegedly causing injuries to the mouth and hands of a woman in Salem on Aug. 6.

A pretrial was set Oct. 5 for Gary Mason, 52, Laura Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with criminal trespass for allegedly entering a Moore Street property he had previously been trespassed from in East Liverpool on July 31.
A pretrial was set Oct. 19 for Thomas Beaver, 51, Shafter Lane, East Liverpool, charged with theft for allegedly taking the gas nozzle from another person's vehicle and pumping $121.67 worth of gas into his own vehicle without permission at business in St. Clair Township on July 28.
A pretrial was set Oct. 6 for Jacob Postlethwait, 18, state Route 534, Salem, charged with telecommunications harassment for allegedly repeatedly calling a Salem business he had been terminated from earlier that morning and the personal phone of a staff member on July 17.
