Sheriff’s Office
— Goshen Township Police in Mahoning County called at 2:35 p.m. Saturday to request a Columbiana County deputy do a welfare check on one of their township residents who made statements of self harm and was at a residence on Heritage Drive, Knox Township. The deputy spoke with the person who was fine and was with family members. The person also called Goshen Township Police and they don’t want to have contact with the person.
— A deputy was dispatched at 1:46 p.m. Saturday to Bandy Road, Knox Township for a crash notification from a cell phone. The homeowner said everything was fine.
— A deputy was dispatched at 3:42 p.m. Saturday to the 4800 block of Bandy Road, Knox Township, for a company installing cable blocking the road. The deputy saw the cable company vehicle was not blocking the road.
— A deputy responded to a request for assistance at 1:53 p.m. Saturday from corrections officers at the Federal Correctional Institute Elkton in Elk Run Township where officers reported observing and detaining a Hispanic man dressed in camouflage clothing launching contraband onto federal property on Scroggs Road. The man, identified as Victor Manuel Diaz De Montes Oca, 34, Painesville, provided a Mexico identification. He was charged with criminal trespass and the contraband was seized by FCI Elkton staff with future federal criminal charges pending. The Immigration Control and Enforcement (ICE) agency was contacted in reference to the arrest. Diaz was being held in the county jail and appeared for arraignment in Columbiana County Municipal Court Monday morning. He entered a not guilty plea, with a pretrial set for May 18. He remains in jail under a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He was also ordered to stay away from FCI Elkton.
Highway Patrol
— Caleb M. McGath, 29, Woodville Road, Leetonia, was cited for failure to yield turning left after his westbound vehicle on state Route 558 was starting to turn and was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Rodney L. Jarvis, 43, Creston, W.Va. at 6:55 p.m. April 28 in Fairfield Township at Fairfield School Road. McGath suffered a suspected minor injury but wasn’t transported. Jarvis was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital by North Star EMS for suspected minor injuries.
— Anthony C. Blancato, 29, High Street, Leetonia, was cited for assured clear distance after his eastbound vehicle on U.S. Route 62 struck the rear of another eastbound vehicle driven by Jessica G. Martinelli, 31, Arch Street, Salem, causing her vehicle to strike the rear of an eastbound vehicle driven by William Allen Hoffman, 61, Bowman Road, Homeworth at 4:07 p.m. April 29 in Perry Township. No injuries were reported.
— Jacob T. Moore, 22, Youngstown, was cited for reasonable control after his southbound vehicle on U.S. Route 30 in Elkrun Township crossed the center line and struck a northbound vehicle driven by Nanette S. Sullivan, 64, Howard, at 7:14 p.m. April 30 and ran off the road and overturned. The Sullivan vehicle ran off the road to the right. Sullivan was transported by West Point Fire/EMS to East Liverpool City Hospital for suspected minor injuries.
