YSU thrills the crowd
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown State men’s basketball team made 14 three-pointers for a 99-61 victory over Bryan & Stratton College (Ohio) in front of a Beeghly Center sellout crowd of 4,637 for the School Day Kids Game Friday.
The Penguins were led by senior Bryson Dawkins’ season-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Senior Cris Carroll added 18 points, junior Rich Rolf 15 points and junior Tae Blackshear had a career-high 15 points. Vlad Salaridze grabbed 13 rebounds.
Leading the Bobcats were Greg Thurman with 12 points and Tareeq Roper 11 points.
It was the first-ever game against an NCAA Division I opponent for Bryant & Stratton, which is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
Rebels split
SALEM — The Crestview bowling teams split with Garfield on Friday at Hunt Club Lanes.
The Crestview boys earned a 2,246-2,045 victory. Brody Brubaker led the Rebels with a 245 high game and a 466 series. Peyton Mellott added a 390 series, while Milton Scott rolled a 346 series and Chris Johnson chipped in with a 336 series.
In the girls’ match, Garfield defeated Crestview 1,932-1,641.
Kylee Wolfe paced Crestview with a 156 high game and 308 series. Blasey Biser followed with a 300 series and Lyv Barnett added a 266 series.
Indians swept by Irish
KENSINGTON — The Southern Local bowling teams were swept by Youngstown Ursuline on Thursday at Forest Lanes.
In the boys’ match, Ursuline defeated Southern Local 1,866-1,710. Mason Sosack led the Indians with a 214 high game and a 370 series.
The Southern Local girls also fell to Ursuline, 1,395-1,078. Kylie Board paced the Indians with a 129 high game and a 247 series.
