Grand Jury

LISBON — The Columbiana County Grand Jury recently filed a secret indictment against Glen A. Guthrie, Jr., 56, Massillon, for felony-four receiving stolen property, specifically a Vermeer Wood Chipper valued between $7,500 and $150,000. The property belonged to Asplundh Tree, and Guthrie is accused of knowingly or having reasonable cause to believe it was obtained through theft.

Also served with a secret indictment was:

– Krista M. Gallite, 38, Lexington Avenue, Salem, for Aggravated Possession of Drugs, specifically methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance. The alleged offense occurred on March 23, and is classified as a fifth-degree felony. The indictment also includes a notice of disability, prohibiting the defendant from acquiring, carrying, or using firearms or dangerous ordnance during the case’s pendency or upon conviction.

LISBON — A Salem woman accused of stealing drugs from three people and allegedly making false statements for prescriptions was sentenced recently in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Columbiana County Grand Jury for multiple felony counts.

Megan Nottingham, 31, West Wilson Street, Salem, was originally charged with three counts of theft of drugs, a third-degree felony, two counts of illegal processing of drug documents, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of fifth-degree felony illegal processing of drug documents, but entered a guilty plea to three counts of theft of drugs. She was sentenced to three years of community control.

According to the indictment, the charges all stem from Dec. 31, 2023 when she allegedly stole hydrocodone from a woman, tramadol from a different woman and oxycodone from a man, also making false statements for prescriptions for hydrocodone and oxycodone and possessing a false or forged prescription for tramadol.

Also in Common Pleas:

— Christopher R. Ewing, 40, state Route 644, Kensington was sentenced to 19 months behind bars for two counts of fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and two counts of felony-five non-support of dependents after his community control was dishonorably terminated. Ewing failed to pay child support for two children from May 8, 2022 to May 5, 2024 and possessing methamphetamine.

— A sentencing hearing was set Feb. 20 for Joseph Walter Perez, 43, Youngstown, after his recently guilty plea to obstructing justice. Perez was originally charged with fourth-degree felony promoting prostitution for allegedly having an interest in an enterprise involving a woman to facilitate engagement in sexual activity on July 27 in East Palestine.

— Isaac Hickman, 19, Southeast Boulevard, Salem, was sentenced to three years of community control. As part of community control, Hickman must serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center (EOCC) in Wintersville for third-degree felony failure to comply (fleeing/eluding) and misdemeanors of underage consumption and menacing. Hickman took off in his vehicle after police saw him in an altercation in Salem, almost striking the front of the police cruiser and leading officers on a pursuit, endangering the public with reckless driving on June 15. Once apprehended, he was found to be intoxicated and under the legal age. At the jail, he made threats and actions toward a Salem police officer, who then maced him.

— Michael W. Loy Jr., 50, Shafter Lane, East Liverpool, pled guilty to two counts of non-support of dependents, each a felony five. He was sentenced to three years of community control, with conditions including monthly child support payments and compliance with probation regulations.
