Court News

LISBON — A Wellsville man was recently placed under community control for 36 months during sentencing for a domestic violence charge in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

Zachary Paxson, 47, Main Street, was ordered to have no contact with the victim as part of the sentence. The charge was a misdemeanor. A felony charge of strangulation was being dismissed.

Paxson entered a guilty plea in May. He was accused of striking a woman in the face, pushing her against a wall causing injury to her face and forehead and choking her, causing her to almost lose consciousness on Aug. 21, 2024 in Wellsville.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Joey Bedenbough, 45, Akron, was ordered to serve 160 days in the county jail for violating the terms of his probation for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He received credit for 130 days, leaving a balance of 30 days still to serve in jail. His community control was dishonorably terminated. Bedenbough possessed methamphetamine on June 19, 2020.

— A case was dismissed without prejudice against Nicole Taylor, 45, 10th Street, Wellsville, for a fourth-degree felony charge of theft at the request of the prosecution. In a motion to dismiss, county Chief Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Weikart said further investigation was needed before the case was presented to grand jury. No indictment had been issued yet. Taylor was first charged in county Municipal Court for the theft charge, with her case bound over for consideration by the grand jury. She was accused of allegedly taking lottery tickets while she was working at Peps Carryout in Wellsville and scratching them without paying for them last year. The affidavit said Wellsville police officers were dispatched on Sept. 25, 2024 for the theft, with the owner receiving a statement from the Ohio Lottery Commission showing an insufficient total of $8,457.

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, cases against Donald Weyand, 57, Monaca Street, East Liverpool, were bound over to the county grand jury for second-degree felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal damaging for allegedly forcing entry into an East Liverpool residence on July 19, damaging the door and its frame and stealing a speaker.

A pretrial was set Oct. 2 for Caleb A. Horton, 20, Union Ridge Road, Rogers, charged with misdemeanor unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl on Feb. 11, 2023 in Fairfield Township. Horton was 18 at the time of the alleged incident and allegedly knew the age of the girl prior to the sexual conduct, the court affidavit said. He was ordered to have no contact with the juvenile.

A pretrial was set Sept. 25 for Jason Mullins, 41, North Union Avenue, Salem, charged with domestic violence for allegedly being in a verbal dispute with a woman and punching the window of the vehicle she was driving while attempting to leave, breaking the window on April 4 in Salem.

A pretrial was set Aug. 11 for Colton Wade, 39, Macrum Street, East Liverpool, charged with domestic violence for allegedly punching a woman in the face and throwing her to the ground on July 29 in East Liverpool.

Dennis Travers, 45, Aten Avenue Extension, Wellsville, was fined $300 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 160 suspended and credit for nine days served, leaving a balance of 11 days still to serve for aggravated menacing. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service. Travers was accused of making multiple threats to kill two East Liverpool police officers on July 2 in East Liverpool.

Christian Feezle, 31, Linesville, Pa., was fined $750 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and a prostitution prevention course. Feezle requested sexual conduct for an agreed upon price of $120 from an undercover agent, then drove to Salem for the meeting on Feb. 6, with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession.

Matthew J. Gilbert, 33, state Route 45, Salem, was fined $750 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and a prostitution prevention course. Gilbert requested sexual conduct from an undercover agent for an agreed upon price of $100 and then drove to Salem for the meeting on Oct. 18, 2024 with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession.

Ryan Thompson, 42, listed as homeless in Salem, was fined $100 and sentenced to two days in jail, with credit for two days served, for criminal trespass for being on the property at Smith Oil in Salem on July 29 after previously being trespassed from the store.

A pretrial was set Oct. 9 for Ryder Palmer, 18, Ohio Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with theft for allegedly being identified on July 24 as the person who stole six Buzz Balls from Sheetz in Calcutta, dropping one on the way out of the store.

A pretrial was set Oct. 9 for Adam Cain, 47, Cuyahoga Falls, charged with criminal damaging and criminal trespass for allegedly trespassing at Arbaugh Mini Storage in Knox Township on U.S. Route 62 and cutting the locks off of three storage units with bolt cutters on Dec. 30, 2022.

A pretrial was set Oct. 2 for Justina DeSarro, 35, Curry Street, East Liverpool, charged with criminal trespass for being at a residence on Cannons Mill Road in St. Clair Township where she’s not allowed to be without supervision per a court order.

A pretrial was set Sept. 19 for Annalise Kramer, 19, Dakota Street, East Liverpool, charged with theft for allegedly switching the price tag of an item with another item, scanning the item and then leaving on July 20 at the Calcutta Walmart.

A pretrial was set Oct. 9 for Amy Fielder, 48, Bradshaw Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with theft for allegedly stealing a wallet at Walmart on July 19 in St. Clair Township, leaving without turning the wallet in.

Megan Stofen, 30, Cleveland Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $200 for criminal trespass for being in a condemned residence in East Liverpool on May 1.

William Barrett, 65, Sophia Street, East Liverpool, was fined $200 for criminal trespass for being in a condemned residence in East Liverpool on May 1.

Khbair Almajid Tisdale, 44, Minerva Street, East Liverpool, was fined $200 for criminal trespass for being in a condemned residence in East Liverpool on May 1.

A pretrial was set Sept. 23 for Angela Radeschi, no age listed, Globe Street, East Liverpool, charged with four counts of failure to pay city income tax and two counts of failure to file city income tax return for allegedly failing to pay East Liverpool city income tax for tax years 2018 through 2021 and failing to file East Liverpool city income tax returns for tax years 2023 and 2024.

A pretrial was set Oct. 16 for Chad Fowler, 40, Salem Grange Road, Salem, charged with operating a vehicle impaired second offense and reasonable control.

A court trial was set Aug. 11 for Brett Goughnour, 50, Shadyside, charged with open container.

Natalie Granito, 44, Industry, Pa., was fined $1,525 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended and credit for three days served in a driver intervention program, for OVI, physical control amended from OVI, two lights displayed, marked lanes and open container. She was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and her driver’s license was suspended for one year, with driving privileges granted.

A pretrial was set Sept. 25 for Brian Vandusen, 55, Youngstown, charged with speeding.

Chad Vodhanel, 49, Boardman, was fined $450 and sentenced to three days in jail for driving under suspension and failure to stop after an accident, with the jail time to be served at the same time as the prison sentence currently being served.

Kaylee Bass, 22, West Pershing Street, Salem, was fined $125 for no license and marked lanes.

Jeffrey Rosfield Jr., 50, Georgetown, Pa., was fined $230 for driving under suspension, speeding and no seat belt.
