Grand Jury
LISBON — A Canton man accused of stealing a vehicle was served Friday with a secret indictment issued by Columbiana County Grand Jury.
Joshua E. Houston, 45, Canton, is charged with robbery, a third-degree felony, and grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, for allegedly using or threatening to use force in the theft of a vehicle Sept. 28, 2023.
Also served with a secret indictment was:
— Aushae M. Allen, 42, Massillon, possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing the drug on Feb. 3, 2024.
Municipal
LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, charges against an East Palestine man accused of breaking into a village business have been bound over to the grand jury.
Andrew Frederick Freed, 19, Hadley Road, is charged with breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools, both fifth-degree felonies, for allegedly forcing entry at a North Market Street business June 15 and removing several items from the shelves.
A pretrial was set Sept. 29 for Ryan P. Oliver, 46, Princeton Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with criminal damaging and discharge of a firearm for allegedly firing rounds into a garage on Lincoln Avenue in East Liverpool.
Devon J. Eckand, 27, Adena, Ohio, was sentenced to 180 days in jail (160 suspended and three credited) and fined $500 for engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools for arranging on a known website to pay $80 for sexual conduct and traveling to Salem June 20 with the phone on which he made the arrangements. He was found to have an extensive criminal history including a felony warrant for his arrest for possession of child pornography in Moundsville, W.Va. An arraignment is set June 26 on a charge of fugitive from justice.
Joseph R. Crowder, 36, Ravenna, was sentenced to 90 days in jail (suspended), fined $750, placed on two years probation and ordered to complete 20 hours community service and an online educational course for engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools.
Justin L. Shaw, 40, Riverview Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 30 days in jail (28 suspended and two credited), placed on one year probation, fined $200 and ordered to complete 20 hours community service and a general mental health evaluation for disorderly conduct amended from menacing.
Christopher Anthony Porto, 32, Clifton Avenue, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 90 days in jail (87 suspended and three credited), fined $925, placed on two years probation, had his license suspended for one year and ordered to complete 20 hours of community service and substance abuse evaluation for OVI and failure to control.
Hailey Marie Kern, 25, Youngstown, was not fined for no driver’s license.
A charge of felonious assault against Jill Marie Gilbert, 48, Fawcett Street, East Liverpool, was dismissed.
