Court News

LISBON — A Newton Falls man who stole money from an elderly person will face sentencing on March 17 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

Jeffrey Hughes, 39, pleaded guilty to theft from a person in a protected class, a second-degree felony, for allegedly stealing $52,114 from an elderly person from July 31, 2022 to April 26, 2023.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Jarred Chestnut, 33, West California Avenue, Sebring, pleaded guilty to burglary, a second-degree felony lesser offense from the original charge of first-degree felony aggravated burglary. A charge of aggravated menacing will be dismissed. Sentencing was set for March 17. He was accused of trespassing in a Continental Drive, Salem apartment, threatening the resident with a handgun, grabbing him by the neck and chest and threatening to put him in a trunk and make him disappear on June 20, 2024, according to a police affidavit.

— Tiffany Rabquer, 35, Somer Street, Leetonia, pleaded guilty to third-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and misdemeanor falsification for allegedly possessing methamphetamine and making a false statement on May 13, 2023. Sentencing was set for May 13, 2023.

Grand Jury

LISBON — Lonnie Cunningham, 31, Lincoln Avenue, East Liverpool, was served Monday with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for burglary, a third-degree felony, for allegedly trespassing in an occupied structure to commit theft on Nov. 22, 2024.

Municipal

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, Charles Slocum, 33, Brookfield Avenue, Lisbon, was fined $550 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 116 days suspended and credit for four days served, leaving a balance of 60 days to still serve in jail for menacing, assault, resisting arrest, sexual imposition and disorderly conduct. He was ordered to complete 40 hours community service and to have no contact with the victims or Mexico City in Columbiana. Slocum was accused of sexually assaulting females and making sexual comments to them and trying to fight staff at the Mexico City Hardin Columbiana. He was found outside lying on the ground with several people pointing at him on Oct. 26, 2024. He had been asked to leave the bar and also assaulted a male in front of the business by grabbing his hoodie from behind and attempting to pull him to the ground. During the investigation, he was kicking and hitting stuff in the back of the patrol car and then had to be forced back inside the vehicle after leg restraints were placed on him and he made several threats to officers.

A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Jan. 21 for Hayden Coil, 18, Aten Avenue Extension, Wellsville, charged with fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanors of failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer and expired license for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle and failing to stop when East Liverpool police officers attempted a traffic stop, eventually coming to a stop on Jan. 13 in East Liverpool.

A pretrial was set April 8 for Jerrad Rydarowicz, 45, Ford Road, Leetonia, charged with domestic violence for allegedly grabbing a woman by the front of her coat and shoving her, then wrestling with her to take her cell phone, forcing her to use the house phone to call 911 on Jan. 13 in Leetonia. He was ordered to have no contact with the woman.

Catherine Gregg, 27, Penn Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $300 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 166 days suspended, leaving a balance of 14 days still to serve in jail for assault. She was ordered to complete 50 hours community service, make restitution of $43.90 and have no contact with the victim. Gregg attacked a woman as she was attempting to get to her car in Wellsville on Feb. 25, 2024.

Nicholas Wolfe, 45, Washington Street, Lisbon, was fined $500 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 60 days suspended and credit for 77 days served, leaving a balance of 43 days still to serve in jail for domestic violence and aggravated menacing. He was ordered to complete 40 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim. Wolfe’s case had been bound over to the grand jury, but then sent back to Municipal Court. Wolfe was accused of grabbing a woman by the throat, pushing her to the ground, causing her to hit her head and kicking her in the head during a domestic on Oct. 15, 2024 in Salem.

Chris Davis, 63, Lehi, Utah, formerly Salem, was fined $200 and sentenced to one day in jail, with credit for one day served, for telecommunications harassment. On June 20, 2024 in Salem, Davis was accused of calling, texting, and sending harassing messages and social media posts to a woman.

Donald Locher, 54, South Union Avenue, Salem, was fined $250 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for disorderly conduct amended from domestic violence for using his elbow against a woman who allegedly threw a plate at him during a domestic on Sept. 2, 2024 in Salem.

Toni Locher, 53, Uniontown, was fined $250 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for disorderly conduct amended from domestic violence. She was accused of throwing a plate at a man during a domestic on Sept. 2, 2024 in Salem.

A pretrial was set Jan. 21 for Brianne Flaherty, 30, West Washington Street, Lisbon, charged with endangering children for allegedly overdosing and possessing drug abuse instruments and drugs in the vicinity of a child on Dec. 5, 2024 in Lisbon.

Delaney Veon, 21, West Pershing Street, Salem, was fined $250 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for disorderly conduct amended from domestic violence. She was ordered to complete 30 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim. Veon was accused of choking a man during a physical altercation on Aug. 4, 2024 in Salem.

A pretrial was set April 10 for Catherine Russell, 65, Toronto, charged with theft for allegedly failing to scan and pay for 14 items totaling $67.95 at the Calcutta Walmart in St. Clair Township on Jan. 8.

Juliana Simmons, 39, Aliquippa, Pa., was fined $250 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for disorderly conduct amended from theft. She was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $171.79 to Walmart and to complete 40 hours community service. She was ordered to stay out of the East Liverpool (Calcutta) Walmart. Simmons was accused of failing to scan and pay for 21 items totaling $171.79 at the Calcutta Walmart in St. Clair Township on Oct. 10, 2024.

Jason Lee McEldowney, 38, Ravine Street, East Liverpool, was fined $550 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 122 days suspended and credit for 13 days served, leaving a balance of 45 days still to serve in jail for three counts of theft and two counts of criminal trespass for allegedly trespassing at Dollar Tree in East Liverpool on Dec. 22 after being told on Oct 23, 2023 that he could no longer enter the store. He was also accused of stealing three bags of gummy bears and four bottles of chocolate milk from the store. Also on Dec. 22 in East Liverpool, he stole items from Giant Eagle and also trespassed at the Dollar General, knowing he was trespassed from the store in March 2024 and wasn’t allowed to enter. On Dec. 12, 2024, he concealed two breakfast bowls at Dollar Tree in East Liverpool and left without paying for them.

Alexis Cusick, 33, West Main Street, New Waterford, was fined $150 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for criminal trespass and was ordered to have no contact with the victim. Cusick was accused of trespassing on a woman’s property in New Waterford on Dec. 29, 2024.

Christopher McCauley, 45, Lincoln Avenue, Wellsville, was fined $250 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 160 days suspended, leaving a balance of 20 days to serve for falsification. He was also fined $200 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for no license and loud exhaust. He was ordered to complete 30 hours community service. McCauley lied to a deputy sheriff at the county jail, giving a different name than his own after he had been taken then for warrants.

Christopher Dorsey, 44, Erie Street, East Liverpool, was fined $1,000 for driving under suspension, use of unauthorized plate and littering. The litter charge stems from the dumping of tires at a property in East Liverpool on March 30, 2024. An assault charge stemming from an incident on July 28, 2024 in East Liverpool was dismissed

Matthew Crowl, 46, listed as homeless, last known address Ellsworth Avenue, Salem, was fined $300 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for possession of drug abuse instrument and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia. He was ordered to complete 40 hours community service. Crowl possessed a hypodermic needle and a clear baggy with a white crystal substance when taken into custody in Salem on Oct. 23, 2024 for an active warrant.

Savanna Seth, 22, Columbus, was fined $150 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for drug paraphernalia. She was ordered to complete 20 hours community service. Seth possessed a glass smoking pipe with white residue during a traffic stop on June 28, 2024 in Rogers.

Tristan Taylor, 32, Commerce Street, Wellsville, was fined $200 for failure to obtain permission and special deer or wild turkey permit.

A motion hearing was set Feb. 27 for John Peter Cole, 45, Black Road, Lisbon, charged with operating a vehicle impaired first offense, OVI breath first offense and left of center.

A pretrial was set March 18 for Susan Bailey, 76, Chester, W.Va., charged with driving onto roadway from place other than roadway.

A pretrial was set March 20 for Curtis Rhoden, 49, Akron, charged with speeding.

A pretrial was set Jan. 16 for Joseph Savin, 38, Clark Avenue, Wellsville, charged with driving under suspension and prohibited acts.

A pretrial was set April 7 for Lacie Chludzinski, 20, Walnut Street, Rogers, charged with driving in violation of driving restriction and reasonable control.

Charges of failure to produce license and failure to display valid sticker were dismissed against Lucas Uphole, 43, Somer Street, Leetonia, at the request of the prosecutor, with costs taxed to the defendant and a stipulation to probable cause.

Christy Rohn, 33, Front Street, Negley, was fined $100 for no license amended from driving under suspension.

Brian Murphy, 47, Center Street, East Liverpool, was fined $150 for expired license and traffic control devices.

Gavin Brown, 22, McGovern Road, Salineville, was fined $130 for driving under suspension and driving while texting.

Shawn Setting Jr., 29, Youngstown, was fined $250 for driving under suspension.

George Moore, 53, Cannons Mill Road, East Liverpool, was fined $200 for no license and invalid plate.

Tonya Bebout, 48, Wells Avenue, Wellsville, was fined $100 for expired registration, with a charge of driving under suspension dismissed.

Leonard Mercer, 65, East Main Street, Salineville, was fined $250 for driving under suspension and no valid license.

David Penezich III, 25, Newgarden Road, Salem, was fined $300 for two counts of speeding.

James Duncan, 22, Salem Grange Road, Salem, was fined $50 for an equipment violation amended from assured clear distance.
