LISBON — An East Liverpool man accused of assaulting a woman at a Halloween party in East Liverpool last year pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to aggravated assault, with sentencing set for Nov. 25.

Tyler Woolmaker, 20, Idaho Avenue, had been ordered evaluated by the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio and on Friday was found competent by Judge Megan Bickerton to stand trial, with a plea then entered.

Woolmaker had been indicted for felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and misdemeanor assault for showing up at a Halloween party on Oct. 28, 2023 in East Liverpool and striking a woman in the head with a whiskey bottle. He pleaded guilty to a lesser-included offense, fourth-degree felony aggravated assault, with the misdemeanor assault charge dismissed.

— A Pennsylvania woman accused of trying to harm a deputy by striking the rear of his cruiser with her car was sentenced to at least three years in prison as part of her punishment.

Amberlina N. Gentsy, 30, Monaca, Pa., appeared Tuesday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for sentencing.

She entered guilty pleas in August to a lesser offense of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, along with third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and misdemeanor operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or combination of them. She was originally charged with a felonious assault second-degree felony charge which noted the victim was a law enforcement officer.

The charges all stemmed from a traffic pursuit on April 3, 2021 when Gentsy was driving a 2020 Nissan Versa and struck the rear of a Columbiana County sheriff deputy’s cruiser after the vehicle slowed in front of her at the intersection of state Routes 154 and 45 during the vehicle chase.

Gentsy was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the failure to comply charge which must be served prior to the felonious assault. She received an additional indefinite term of two to three years for the felonious assault, bringing the total to at least three years and possibly a fourth year if the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections decides she should stay. A 180-day jail term for the OVI was ordered served at the same time as the other terms. She received credit for 662 days already served in jail, which will reduce the time she’s in prison.

She also received a mandatory fine of $375 and her driver’s license was suspended for three years.
