Grand Jury

LISBON — A Columbiana man was served Wednesday with a secret indictment issued recently by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for theft.

Benjamin Corll, 37, Fairfield School Road, was accused of the fourth-degree felony theft charge for allegedly stealing $5,494 from the Crestview Elementary PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) from May 16, 2020 to Jan. 4, 2022, according to the indictment.

Municipal

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a case against Robert Kastanek, 40, North Madison Avenue, Salem, was bound over to the county grand jury for felonious assault, a second-degree felony, for allegedly punching a woman in the face multiple times, using brass knuckles while punching her in the face and stomping on her ribs while she was on the ground on Sept. 18 in Salem.

A case against Richard Thomas Wright, 29, McKinnon Avenue, East Liverpool, was bound over to the county grand jury for third-degree felony failure to verify change of address for allegedly failing to notify the sheriff’s office that he had moved from Lincoln Avenue, East Liverpool, which he’s required to do as a registered sex offender.

A preliminary hearing was set Oct. 17 for Joseph Canfield, 51, Springview Street, East Liverpool, charged with fifth-degree felony theft for allegedly stealing four tires valued at $1,085 on Sept. 25 from Monroe Muffler in St. Clair Township where he worked.

A pretrial was set Dec. 17 for Frank Daley Jr., 72, Raley Road, New Waterford, charged with assault and aggravated menacing for allegedly grabbing a woman’s arm and pushing her back into a vehicle at a crash scene in Columbiana on Sept. 13, yelling and threatening her and then threatening a witness who came to help at the accident.

Francisco Jose, 38, East Third Street, Salem, was fined $300 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 60 days suspended and credit for 11 days served, leaving a balance of 109 days still to serve in jail for domestic violence. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim or the residence. He was accused of striking a woman in the head with a closed fist, shoving her to the ground and kicking her in the torso on Sept. 15 in Salem.

Larry Tice, 45, Dome Street, East Liverpool, was fined $250 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for menacing, amended from domestic violence. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service. Tice was accused of grabbing a child by the throat and throwing her on the couch, then punching her in the arm on Dec. 19, 2022 in St. Clair Township.

Tariq Larkins, 32, Riverside Avenue, Wellsville, was fined $250 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 40 days suspended and credit for one day served, leaving a balance of 39 days to serve in jail for domestic violence. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and to stay away from the juvenile victim. Larkins was accused of punching a juvenile in the shoulder on Dec. 4, 2023 in Wellsville.

A pretrial was set Jan. 9 for James Bollinger, 34, Park Avenue, East Palestine, charged with attempted drug possession for allegedly attempting to possess methamphetamine on March 1 in East Palestine.

A pretrial was set Oct. 3 for Daniel Tunnat, 59, Woodsdale Road, Salem, charged with aggravated menacing and weapons while intoxicated for allegedly discharging a firearm in the air while intoxicated and while another man was outside his own residence on Sept. 24 in Butler Township.

Misty Conrad, 36, Ohio Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $250 for obstructing official business and wrongful entrustment for switching seats with the driver of a vehicle stopped by a deputy sheriff on July 18 in Lisbon because he did not have a valid license.

A pretrial was set Nov. 25 for Justin Buckel, 32, Dakota Street, East Liverpool, charged with obstructing official business for allegedly switching seats with a passenger during a traffic stop on July 18 in Lisbon due to his license being suspended.

Dana Saltsman, 69, Myers Road, Kensington, was fined $200 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for disorderly conduct amended from aggravated menacing. Charges of assault and disorderly conduct were dismissed. He was ordered to have no contact with the victims. On Oct. 28, 2022, Saltsman turned on his mower deck and went back and forth on the road, blowing debris toward the victim, then continuing to yell and cuss at him. On Aug. 9, 2023, he operated a large tractor in the direction of a woman in an unsafe manner with the intention of striking her, causing her to jump out of the way. He also grabbed and scratched a man at the scene after being told by the man several times to back away.

A pretrial was set Oct. 3 for Chris Davis, 32, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem, charged with telecommunications harassment for allegedly calling, texting and using social media to harass a woman on June 20 in Salem.

Kimberly Groetzinger, 54, New Cumberland, W.Va., was fined $150 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 89 days suspended, leaving one day to serve in jail for theft. She was ordered to complete 30 hours community service and to have no contact with the Calcutta Walmart. Groetzinger was accused of taking 11 items valued at $164 from the Calcutta Walmart on Sept. 18.

Kevin Lambert, 35, U.S. Route 30, Minerva, was fined $200 and sentenced to 30 days in jail, with 26 days suspended and credit for four days served, for disorderly conduct amended from domestic violence. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service. Lambert was accused of pushing a woman in the back, causing the right side of her head to hit a window, breaking the window on Dec. 29 at a state Route 644, Hanoverton property.

Charles Henderson, 29, Foundry Hill Road, Salineville, was fined $200 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 88 days suspended and credit for two days served, for assault amended from domestic violence for assaulting a woman on Sept. 13 in Salineville. He was ordered to complete 40 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim.

Tyler Corbisello, 30, 10th Street Extension, Wellsville, was fined $250 and sentenced to 14 days in jail, with credit for 14 days served, for violation of a protection order for allegedly sending multiple text messages to a woman and making several attempts to call her in violation of a protection order on Aug. 15 in Salineville.

An aggravated menacing charge was dismissed against Larry White, 68, New Waterford Road, New Waterford, who had been accused of making threats on May 25 in Fairfield Township.

Brittini Duris, 33, Madison Drive, East Liverpool, was fined $250 and given a suspended 180-day jail term for theft for failing to scan and pay for 110 items totaling $505 at the Calcutta Walmart on Feb. 3. She was ordered to complete 40 hours community service and to stay out of the Calcutta Walmart.

Tyler Howell, 26, New Cumberland, W.Va., was fined $400 and given a suspended jail term of 180 days for drug paraphernalia and failure to stop after an accident for possessing a straw-like tube and small plastic container both with a white powder residue during a traffic stop on March 19 in St. Clair Township. He failed to stop after an accident on Sept. 10 in East Liverpool. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.

A pretrial was set Nov. 4 for Brandon Dunn, 39, Chester, W.Va., charged with traffic control devices, driving under suspension and possession of drug abuse instruments for allegedly possessing syringes during a traffic stop on Sept. 25 in St. Clair Township. He also waived extradition to West Virginia for failure to appear for a felony pretrial there.

A pretrial was set Dec. 3 for Frederick Lyda, 44, State Line Road, Petersburg, charged with drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension and reckless operation for allegedly possessing a black box containing a burnt glass pipe, red straw with residue and a crystal-like substance during a traffic stop on Sept. 19 in East Liverpool.

A pretrial was set Dec.16 for Gregory Dailey, 37, Bloomfield Drive, East Liverpool, charged with drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing a container with residue during a traffic stop on Sept. 15 in East Liverpool.

Brandy Sanders, 27, East Main Street, Washingtonville, was fined $200 for driving under suspension and drug paraphernalia for possessing drug paraphernalia equipment on Sept. 1, 2023 in Leetonia.

Alyssa Hunt, 23, Youngstown, was fined $300 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for reckless operation and endangering children. She was ordered to complete 20 hours community service, a parenting class and a remedial driving course. Hunt was accused of putting a child at risk while speeding after a traffic stop on July 7 in East Palestine.

A pretrial was set Dec. 3 for Rebecca Knight, 33, Canton, charged with illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing a baggie with a white crystal substance during a traffic stop on Sept. 26 in Salem, then allegedly admitting at the police station that she had a glass pipe and another container with white crystal substance in her underwear.

Christine Haylett, 62, New Galilee, Pa., was fined $565 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 170 days suspended, leaving a balance of 10 days still to serve for operating a vehicle impaired and assured clear distance. An OVI refusal with prior within 20 years was dismissed. Her driver’s license was suspended for two years and she was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.

A pretrial was set Jan. 9 for Robert Uyselt, 54, First Street, Beloit, charged with OVI first offense and driving under suspension.

Erika Timmons, 44, Cartwright Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $50 for left of center. Charges of OVI and distracted driving were dismissed. No drugs or alcohol were found in her system, according to the testing noted on a court document.

Joseph Bender, 24, Canfield, was fined $575 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 80 days suspended, leaving a balance of 10 days still to serve in jail for two merged OVI counts and speeding. His driver’s license was suspended for two years and he was ordered to complete 30 hours community service.

Casey Cross, 38, Alliance, was fined $250 for driving under suspension.

A driving while texting charge was dismissed against Enayat Shahidifar, 39, Youngstown.

Brian Specht, 35, Etruria Street, East Liverpool, was fined $50 for intoxication.

Ashley Vankirk, 39, Girard, failed to appear for a speeding charge.

Parker Burt, 19, state Route 45, Lisbon, was fined $250 for speeding.

Rhiannon Visnicky, 29, Lyndhurst, was fined $150 for lighted lights amended from speeding.

James Wilson, 62, North Lincoln Avenue, Salem, was fined $150 for wrongful entrustment.

Joseph Court, 37, Alliance, was fined $250 for driving under suspension.

Fidel Syrianoudis, 30, Canfield, was fined $50 for driving under suspension.

Teresa Fisher, 56, Woodsdale Road, Salem, was fined $50 for speeding.

A pretrial was set Dec. 3 for Robert Levis Jr., 39, East Fifth Street, Salem, charged with driving under suspension and peeling tires.

A pretrial was set Dec. 3 for Lonny Adkins, 52, McDonald Street, East Liverpool, charged with driving under suspension and use of unauthorized plate.

Court News

LISBON — A Washingtonville man charged for attacking a sheriff’s deputy on a call in Salem Township and then a corrections officer at the Columbiana County Jail was found competent to stand trial.

David Kirby, 33, West Main Street, will face a status hearing on Oct. 7 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. A trial that had been set for Oct. 22 has been cancelled.

Kirby is facing charges from two separate indictments, including felonious assault, a first-degree felony, fourth-degree felony assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest for allegedly striking a deputy in the face multiple times and attempting to cause physical harm by means of a metal ink pen after being caught trespassing near a pond March 12 on a Salem Township property. While being taken to the ground, he allegedly continued to throw punches at the deputy and resisted by pulling out the taser barbs after being tased.

He’s facing assault, a fifth-degree felony, for the incident on March 13 against a corrections officer at the county jail.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Jerry Thompson, 39, Youngstown, pleaded guilty to a lesser offense of attempted burglary, a fourth-degree felony, fifth-degree felony breaking and entering and misdemeanors of theft, criminal mischief, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Sentencing was set for Dec. 19. Thompson was accused of breaking into the Spinal Care Chiropractic Center in St. Clair Township on Nov. 8 and stealing a towel. A glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine was left on the front counter of the business.

— Robert R. Smith, 48, last known address Hammond School Road, Wellsville, pleaded guilty to charges from two separate indictments, including fifth-degree felony receiving stolen property for possessing an equipment trailer which was the property of Kevin Chronister on Aug. 19, 2023 and a lesser offense of third-degree felony burglary and misdemeanor assault for returning to the Hammond School Road property April 26, 2023 after being evicted, kicking in the door and assaulting a person who was working inside. Sentencing was set for Nov. 25.

— Delores Lilly, 59, state Route 45, Lisbon, was ordered to prison for 12 months for violating her probation for third-degree felony illegal conveyance of drug of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility. She received credit for 38 days served in jail. Lilly was accused of taking drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility on June 21, 2020. Her probation was dishonorably terminated.

— Daisy Waugh, 36, Bloomfield Road, East Liverpool, was placed under community control for four years after pleading guilty to illegal use of supplemental nutritional assistance program or WIC program benefits, a third-degree felony. She was also ordered to pay restitution of $16,616, in monthly payments. Waugh was accused of illegally using SNAP or WIC program benefits from Sept. 1, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2022.

— Brian Miller, 42, Florence Street, East Liverpool, was ordered to complete the program at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center in Wintersville and remain under community control after violating his probation for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing THC on March 26, 2021. His probation was dishonorably terminated.

–Christian Radcliff, 36, Columbus, was placed under community control for three years during sentencing for possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, with credit for one day served in jail. Radcliff was accused of possessing fentanyl on Dec. 26, 2022.

— Christopher Ewing, 40, state Route 644, Kensington, pleaded guilty to two counts of nonsupport of dependents, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set for Dec. 2. Ewing allegedly failed to pay child support for two children from May 8, 2022 to May 5, 2024.

— Richard Tittle, 33, Harvey Avenue, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and possession of fentanyl-related compound both fifth-degree felonies, for allegedly possessing cocaine and fentanyl on June 24, 2022. Sentencing was set for Jan. 6.
