LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Sept. 3 for Joseph Hakala, 31, East Washington Street, Lisbon, charged with third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and misdemeanors of driving under suspension and reckless operation for allegedly fleeing from a state trooper attempting a traffic stop in Madison Township, reaching speeds of 100 mph and fleeing into West Virginia on Aug. 14.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was reset Sept. 3 for Brenston Trevel Thompkins, 29, homeless, East Liverpool, charged with first-degree felony aggravated burglary, third-degree felony having weapons while under disability, second-degree felony burglary, and misdemeanors of aggravated trespass and criminal trespass. On June 13, Thompkins allegedly trespassed in the parking lot of the Columbiana Metropolitan Housing Authority facility in East Liverpool. That same day he also pulled a gun out at the BP gas station in East Liverpool and advised another man to give him his car keys and possibly struck the man with the handgun. On Dec. 13, 2023, he allegedly knocked an air conditioner out of a window, reached in and unlocked the front door of an East Liverpool residence, trespassing in a woman’s apartment. He had been placed on the no trespass list for the Woodland Hills property.
A pretrial was set Nov. 25 for Sally Jo Stanley, 58, Leslie Road, Lisbon, charged with theft and two counts of domestic violence. On Aug. 4, she allegedly struck another woman in the neck with a fly swatter, threw a TV remote at her chest and threatened to kill her in East Liverpool, also getting on top of the other woman and attempting to punch her in the face, then kicking her in the legs, back and head multiple times. She also allegedly took the other woman’s cell phone.
David Sparks, 31, Green Lane, East Liverpool, was fined $1,125 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 150 days suspended and credit for 13 days served, leaving a balance of 17 days to serve for aggravated menacing, operating a vehicle impaired, failure to control, failure to stop after an accident and driving under suspension. His driver’s license was suspended for one year. He was accused of threatening to blow a woman’s head off and pulling what he admitted was a stick in the shape of a gun during an argument on July 15 in East Liverpool.
Marc Richard Bunims, 56, Bethel Park, Pa., was fined $750 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended and credit for three days served, for engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. Bunims was ordered to complete a 12-hour education course. He was accused of responding to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranging for sexual activity with a female in exchange for money, then traveling to East Palestine on March 15 for the meeting with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession.
A pretrial was set Sept. 5 for Corey McWhorter, 35, Morton Street, East Liverpool, charged with aggravated menacing for allegedly pointing a gun at a man who was arguing with another man on Aug. 24 in East Liverpool.
Karen Runkles, 41, East High Street, East Palestine, was fined $300 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for falsification. She was ordered to complete 20 hours community service. Runkles was accused of lying to police after she was asked about hitting her child in East Palestine at Subway on March 2 and claiming that she did not hit the child. Officers viewed video footage of her striking her child in the mouth.
A charge of assault was dismissed against Zashenka Carrasquillo, 19, West Martin Street, East Palestine, per the prosecutor due to the alleged victim moving out of state and not being willing to return for trial. Carrasquillo was accused of punching and assaulting a juvenile on June 2, 2023.
A disorderly conduct charge was dismissed against Jessica Morris, 46, Market Street, East Liverpool, who was ordered to pay court costs after stipulating to probable cause. Morris had been accused of being severely intoxicated on Aug. 18 in East Liverpool and waving police over, then refusing to get in the cruiser.
Robert L. Polojac Jr., 55, Niles, was ordered released from jail after the balance of his 60-day jail sentence was suspended due to a medical condition. Polojac was ordered to jail on Aug. 1, with seven days of the 60-day term suspended, for violating his probation for theft. The theft charged stemmed from a 2017 case.
A pretrial was set Dec. 2 for Nathan Edwards Elkins, 35, Baden, Pa., charged with drug paraphernalia. A private review hearing was also set after Elkins waived extradition as a fugitive from justice from Pennsylvania where he’s wanted on an active warrant. East Liverpool police had been called to a playground for possible drug activity and found Elkins, who had a burnt glass pipe with a crystal-like substance on Aug. 25.
A probation violation hearing was set Sept. 5 for Tiffany Herron, 39, Saline Street, Irondale, charged with criminal mischief for a case from 2021.
A pretrial was set Nov. 18 for Zachary Mumford, 39, Wilbert Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with two counts of possession of drug abuse instrument and theft for allegedly possessing used syringes on March 14, 2022 and on March 30, 2021 in East Liverpool and allegedly taking a large bin of merchandise out of Dollar General in Wellsville on Aug. 8, 2020.
Keith May, 62, Four Oaks, N.C., was fined $465 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 84 days suspended and credit for three days served in a driver intervention program, leaving a balance of three days to serve, for operating a vehicle impaired (two OVI charges merged), expired tag and left of center. His driver’s license was suspended for one year, with driving privileges granted.
Kenneth Ferguson Jr., 65, Grant Street, Lisbon, was fined $375 and sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 57 days suspended, leaving a balance of three days to serve in jail, for OVI. His driver’s license was suspended for one year. Charges of reasonable control and no motorcycle endorsement were dismissed. He was buying out 20 hours community service.
Keilia Lashelle Sine, 34, McDonald Street, East Liverpool, was fined $570 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 170 days suspended, leaving 10 days to serve in jail for OVI (merged counts) and speeding. Her driver’s license was suspended for two years, with driving privileges granted. She was also ordered to complete 20 hours community service.
Charles Mellott, 48, Bacon Avenue, East Palestine, was fined $250 and sentenced to three days in jail, with three days suspended, for driving under suspension. His driver’s license was suspended for one year.
Corey McWhorter, 35, state Route 154, Lisbon, was fined $200 for driving under suspension and no tail lights.
Steven Cunningham, 54, Sixteen School Road, Irondale, was fined $250 for expired license, expired registration and driving under suspension.
Jamie Brickner, 28, state Route 267, East Liverpool, was fined $100 for unsafe vehicle amended from left of center.
Daniel Elliott, 50, Washington Street, Salem, was fined $295 for expired tag and driving under suspension.
Paul D. Walker, 49, East Taggart Street, East Palestine, was fined $100 for expired license.
Bradley J. Smith, 31, Sherman Street, Lisbon, was fined $50 for failure to yield.
Cody Wilson, 20, Leetonia Road, Leetonia, was fined $100 for reckless operation.

Joshua Smith, 37, Michigan Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $350 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for illegal plates and expired license. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.
Shawn Neilan, 43, Cortland, was fined $150 for an equipment violation, amended from speeding.

A pretrial was set Dec. 2 for Jacob Graham, 38, Fifth Street, Beloit, charged with driving under suspension.
A pretrial was set Oct. 8 for Joshua Gallimore, 36, East Liverpool Road, Lisbon, charged with forfeiture and improper/expired registration.

LISBON — An East Liverpool woman who assisted another person in a break-in was placed under community control for three years, but must serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center in Lisbon.
Angela Walsh, 43, LaCroft Avenue, East Liverpool, appeared in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court recently for sentencing for fifth-degree felonies of complicity in the commission of an offense and possessing criminal tools for aiding and abetting another person in the commission of breaking and entering by entering an unoccupied residence on Hammond School Road, Madison Township, on Oct. 7, 2023. She was caught on a security camera on the private property with a hammer in her possession.

— Nathen Wiseman, 34, Niles, was sentenced to 24 months in prison for third-degree felony failure to verify address for failing to verify his address on Dec. 20, 2023 as required as a registered sex offender. He received credit for 136 days already served.
— Dalton McKinnon, 23, Lacroft Avenue, East Liverpool, was placed on an intervention plan for three years after pleading guilty to fifth-degree felony breaking and entering for breaking into a garage and attempting to take items on Jan. 29 in East Liverpool. As part of the intervention plan, he must serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center in Wintersville.
— John R. Wagner, 38, West Wilson Street, Salem, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for fifth-degree felony failure to fulfill violent offender database duties. The indictment alleged that Wagner was a violent offender required to register his address with the sheriff’s office and failed to do that on Feb. 21, 2023. He received credit for two days served in jail.
— Megan McDonald, 35, Chester, W.Va., pleaded guilty to misdemeanors of attempted receiving stolen property, attempted possession of fentanyl-related compound, attempted possession of cocaine, and fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs. Sentencing was set for Oct. 18. The attempted receiving stolen property charge stemmed from an incident on March 29, 2016. The drug charges stemmed from her possession of methamphetamine and attempt to possess fentanyl and cocaine on Aug 2, 2021.
— Cristal Cronin, 49, Hammondsville, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set for Oct. 21. Charges of possession of cocaine and possession of fentanyl-related compound will be dismissed. Cronin possessed methamphetamine on Dec. 8, 2022.
