Grand Jury

LISBON — Two drug defendants were served Wednesday with secret indictments issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury.

Richard Beagle II, 35, Givens Road, Wellsville, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on July 17, 2022.

Hayden Cope, 29, Kirk Road, Columbiana, was charged with possession of fentanyl-related compound, with a specification for forfeiture of money in a drug case, for allegedly possessing fentanyl and $102 on Aug. 4, 2023.

LISBON — A Salem woman was sent back to jail recently for again violating her probation for two separate drug cases.

Lacey Shasteen, 28, Goshen Road, was ordered to serve 235 days in the county jail, with credit for 175 days already served, leaving a balance of 60 days that she must serve behind bars for the violations for fifth-degree felonies of possession of drugs and aggravated possession of drugs and misdemeanor possession of drugs.

In June, she was ordered to serve 14 days in the county jail for probation violations.

Her cases date back to 2022 when she was charged for possessing methamphetamine and buprenorphine on May 29, 2021 and methamphetamine on June 7, 2021.

Municipal

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a case against Corey A. Schutte, 30, Akron, was bound over to the county grand jury for fourth-degree felonies of operating a vehicle impaired fourth offense and OVI refusal with prior within 20 years for an alleged traffic stop on Aug. 2 when he was allegedly impaired and had three prior OVI convictions in 2023, 2020 and 2017.

A preliminary hearing was set Sept. 3 for Jennifer M. Lancaster, 34, Mingo Junction, charged with fourth-degree felony promote prostitution – transport across state lines for sex for hire for allegedly transporting another woman to Salem on Aug. 14, knowing the other woman was going to engage in sexual activity for hire by admission of the other woman in a texting conversation.

A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Aug. 22 for Matthew John Jerome, 38, Park Avenue, East Palestine, charged with third-degree felony strangulation and misdemeanor domestic violence for an incident on Aug. 14 in East Palestine when he allegedly went after a woman who fled from a residence after an argument and pushed her to the ground, causing superficial injuries to her hands and bruising to an eye, then placed his hands around her throat, choking her, causing her not to breathe for 5 to 10 seconds.

A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Aug. 22 for Tiffany Marie Woolley, 37, Vine Street, East Liverpool, charged with fifth-degree felony violation of a protection order and misdemeanors of domestic violence and violation of a protection order for allegedly violating the terms of a protection order on Aug. 5 in East Liverpool by staying at a counseling center where she made contact with the protected person. On March 2, she was accused of striking a man in the ankle with a sweeper in East Liverpool after an argument over an extension cord. On March 28, she made a comment to a friend of a protected person, saying he should drop the protection order.

A forensic examination for competency to stand trial was ordered for Amanda Collette Curran, 40, New Gallilee, Pa., charged with fourth-degree felony burglary for allegedly illegally entering a residence on state Route 172, Lisbon, on Aug. 5.

Salim Basalat, 35, Sharon, Pa., was fined $500 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 87 days suspended and credit for three days served for possessing criminal tools and procuring. Basalat was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and a 12-hour online education course. A charge of engaging in prostitution was dismissed. Basalat was accused of responding to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranging for sexual activity with a female with him and another male in exchange for $200, arriving in East Palestine on May 17 for the meeting, accompanied by the other male.

A pretrial was set Oct. 24 for Cara Jean Crabtree, 40, Steubenville, charged with possessing criminal tools and soliciting for allegedly posting an ad on a known prostitution website offering sexual conduct to an undercover agent posing as a purchaser of sex in exchange for $400, then traveling to Salem on Aug. 14 for the meeting with the phone used to make the arrangements in her possession.

A pretrial was set Nov. 18 for Travis Gillespie, 59, Indianapolis, Ind., charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools for allegedly requesting sexual conduct for an agreed upon price of $180 from an undercover agent via a cell phone and traveling to Salem on Aug. 14 for the meeting with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession.

A pretrial was set Oct. 17 for Jeffery Long, 49, North Elm Street, Columbiana, charged with violating a temporary protection order for allegedly sending a protected person a video via text message of him singing an ‘a cappella’ version of “Whiskey Lullaby” while drinking a Twisted Tea.

A pretrial was set Oct. 21 for James Tyree Keys Jr., 38, Vine Street, East Liverpool, charged with assault for allegedly attacking another male when a woman was dropping him off and then pushing her to the ground when she attempted to break up the fight on July 16 in East Liverpool.

Daniel McLaughlin, 37, East Clark Street, East Palestine, was fined $250 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 178 days suspended and credit for two days served, for domestic violence. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and to stay away from the victim. A fourth-degree felony strangulation charge was dismissed. McLaughlin was accused of pulling a woman’s hair and putting his hands around her throat on June 22 in East Palestine. She then attempted to flee across the street when the defendant grabbed her by the shirt, pulling her backward off of the steps and onto the sidewalk, ripping her shirt off.

A pretrial was set Oct. 29 for Brian Digman, 38, Steubenville, charged with obstructing official business and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly trying to walk away from officers while he was a suspect in a sex for hire incident and claiming he didn’t come from the vehicle in question. He was also allegedly found in possession of a pipe for use with dangerous drugs, all on Aug. 14 in Salem.

Camren Malachi Sisco, 20, Sixth Street, Wellsville, was fined $250 and sentenced to four days in jail, with credit for four days served, for theft for stealing money from a woman in East Palestine on June 19, 2023. She had agreed to give him $20, but he grabbed the money in her hand, which was over $200 and ran off with it.

Cody Dehoff, 34, Beaver Circle, Columbiana, was fined $500 for two counts disorderly conduct amended from possession of a controlled substance and possession of a drug abuse instrument. He was also fined $30 for no seat belt, with a charge of expired plate dismissed. On Dec. 1, 2023 in Fairfield Township during a traffic stop, Dehoff possessed 11 LSD squares and a hypodermic needle.

A status conference hearing was set Nov.18 and a court trial was set for Nov. 25 for Shawn Peddicord, 42, Wilber Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with theft for allegedly tricking another man into paying $60 for an empty gift card that was supposed to have $100 on it on May 12 in East Liverpool.

A pretrial was set Nov. 18 for Farin Rae Weltner, 47, Georgetown, Pa., charged with theft for allegedly failing to scan and pay for 18 items valued at $145 at the Calcutta Walmart on July 30.

Denis Diosnis Alirio Palacios, 21, North Howard Avenue, Salem, was fined $300 and sentenced to 30 days in jail, with 29 days suspended and credit for one day served, for disorderly conduct and open container. Palacios was intoxicated and engaged in conduct likely to be offensive or to cause inconvenience, annoyance or alarm to other persons on May 22 in East Palestine.

A pretrial was set Nov. 21 for Charles Patrick McLaughlin, 28, New Cumberland, W.Va., charged with drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing a burnt metal socket with chore boy inside used as a crack pipe in his vehicle during a traffic stop in East Liverpool on Aug. 9. He was fined $50 for illegal u-turn.

Jimmy Carl Anderson, 34, Pine Hollow Road, Lisbon, was fined $150 and given a suspended 10-day jail term for criminal trespass for illegally entering a Walnut Street property in Leetonia on July 30. He was also fined $300 for expired registration and two counts driving under suspension. A probation violation hearing was set Oct. 24 for a charge of criminal trespass from a Feb. 25 incident at the same Walnut Street, Leetonia address.

A pretrial was set Nov. 21 for Joseph Jolly, 37, Eutaw Street, East Liverpool, charged with operating a vehicle impaired first offense and loud exhaust.

A pretrial was set Oct. 21 for Christopher Craft, 30, Mill Street, Rogers, charged with no valid license and failure to display valid sticker.

A pretrial was set Nov. 19 for Cristal Cronin, 49, Jefferson, charged with driving under suspension.

Laszlo Nagy, 55, Sarasota, Fla., was fined $150 for equipment misuse amended from speeding.

Brian Renfro, 44, New Cumberland, W.Va., was fined $280 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for use of unauthorized plate and no seat belt.

Lucille Hudak, 41, state Route 7, Columbiana, was fined $50 for no headlight amended from expired license.

Cynthia McGraw, 66, Echo Dell Road, East Liverpool, was fined $50 for failure to yield.
