LISBON– An East Palestine man who entered a residence to commit theft last summer was ordered to prison recently for two years for burglary.
William Tyson, 44, East Taggart Street, appeared in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for his sentencing for a third-degree felony burglary charge, which is a lesser included offense for the original charge of second-degree felony burglary. He received credit for 167 days served in the county jail.
Tyson was accused of entering a woman’s residence on East Taggart Street, East Palestine on July 23, 2023 and stealing a safe containing personal documents and quarters.
Also in Common Pleas Court:
— Brandon Zepernick, 31, Youngstown, was ordered to prison for nine months for violating his probation for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. His participation in drug court was dishonorably terminated. Zepernick received credit for 32 days served in jail. He possessed methamphetamine on Aug. 2, 2019.
— Jason Ryhal, 40, Cartwright Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony domestic violence and fifth-degree felony strangulation, with sentencing set for May 10. Ryhal was accused of slamming a woman to the ground and slamming her head off of the floor while on the ground, then strangling her on Sept. 15, 2023 in East Liverpool.
— Chantel Shuman, 32, East Fourth Street, Salem, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set for May 2. Shuman possessed methamphetamine on Sept. 4, 2021.
— Lee Givens, 37, East Taggart Street, East Palestine, was sentenced to nine months in prison for charges in three separate indictments. The charges included fifth-degree felonies of breaking and entering, receiving stolen property and two counts of aggravated possession of drugs and fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property. He received credit for 222 days served in jail. Givens was accused of entering a residence on South Market Street, East Palestine on May 5, 2022 and possessing a stolen checkbook and a drug on June 5, 2023. He possessed methamphetamine on Jan. 14, 2022 and on May 5, 2022.
