LISBON — A Cleveland man accused of beating another man before stealing his backpack, wallet and gold watch in Salem last year was ordered to prison for at least two years.
Dontae D. McKissic, 21, appeared for sentencing recently in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for a lesser robbery charge, a third-degree felony, and the second-degree felony charge of felonious assault.
The charges against McKissic originally included a first-degree felony aggravated robbery and the felonious assault for the incident on Aug. 27, 2023 when he dragged the victim from inside a Salem business, slammed his face into the outside wall and continued to beat him before robbing him.
He received an indefinite sentence of two to three years for the felonious assault, with two years from the court and the possibility of a third year if the Ohio Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation decides he needs to stay longer after two years. He was sentenced to 24 months or two years for the robbery.
Both sentences are to be served at the same time. He received credit for 217 days served in the county jail.
— Richard McCurdy, 21, Youngstown, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with credit for two days served, for aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony, for possessing methamphetamine on July 27, 2022 in an amount equal or greater than bulk but less that five times bulk. Charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia were going to be dismissed. McCurdy also received a mandatory fine of $5,000 and his driver’s license was suspended for three years.
— Michael Pierre, 38, Youngstown, was sentenced to six months in prison after his request for probation was denied for fourth-degree felony attempted compelling prostitution, a lesser-included offense of the original charge of compelling prostitution, and fourth-degree felony attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He received credit for two days already served in jail. Charges of possessing criminal tools and engaging in prostitution were to be dismissed. He was also designated at Tier II sex offender requiring him to register his address with the sheriff’s office in the county where he resides every 180 days after his release from prison. Pierre responded to an undercover ad posted on a known prostitution website of an adult mother and her 15-year-old daughter, arranging for sexual conduct with the females in exchange for $140 and traveling to East Palestine on Feb. 28, 2023 for the meeting.
— Jarell Washington, 35, Youngstown, was sentenced to 11 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing alprazolam on April 9, 2022. The sentence was ordered served at the same time as a sentence out of Mahoning County. A charge of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, a third-degree felony, was dismissed.
— Richard Short, 56, Rose Drive, Lisbon, was ordered to prison for eight months, with credit for 53 days served in jail, after violating his probation for failure to verify address, a fourth-degree felony, for failing to verify his current address on Feb. 27, 2023 as required of a registered sex offender.
— Jeremy Michael Mathew Quear, 44, Wampum, Pa., was sentenced to six months in prison for attempted compelling prostitution, a fourth-degree felony (originally third-degree felony compelling prostitution), fourth-degree felony attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and misdemeanor engaging in prostitution. A charge of possessing criminal tools was dismissed. Quear was designated a Tier II sex offender requiring him to register his address with the sheriff’s office where he resides every 180 days. Quear responded to an undercover ad and arranged to purchase sexual activity from an undercover agent posing online as a female and her 15-year-old daughter, then traveled to East Palestine on Aug. 10, 2021 for the meeting.
— Dawn Acker, 45, Sunnyside Street, East Liverpool, was placed on community control or probation for four years and ordered to serve to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center in Lisbon for third-degree felonies of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and endangering children and fourth-degree felony vehicular assault. Acker fled from a traffic stop on Sept. 30, 2023 in East Liverpool with a small child in the back of the vehicle and then crashed the vehicle into a house on Wyoming Avenue, causing injury to the child. A second count for failure to comply was dismissed.
— Alfred Thompson, 42, Mecca Road NE, Kensington, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor endangering children for allegedly causing intentional physical harm to a 15-year-old juvenile on March 21, 2023 in Salem. Thompson was originally charged with domestic violence. Sentencing was set for June 4.
— Kimberly Allen, 25, Canton, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony grand theft of a motor vehicle for taking a woman’s vehicle without her consent on South Street, Homeworth, on May 18, 2023. Sentencing was set for April 19.
— Rishun Jones, 20, Youngstown, was placed on community control for two years for a lesser offense of complicity to possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony. The original charge was a first-degree felony of possession of fentanyl-related compound. Charges of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of heroin were being dismissed. Jones possessed an amount of fentanyl on July 8, 2022 that was equal or greater than 20 grams, but less than 50 grams. The other charges involved heroin and methamphetamine.
