LISBON — A New Waterford man was recently sentenced to at least nine years six months in prison for burglary and drug-related charges in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
Charles McCanna, 41, Raley Road, appeared for sentencing for second-degree felony burglary and third-degree felony complicity in the commission of an offense from two separate cases.
He received credit for 40 days already served in jail.
The term for the burglary was an indefinite term of seven to a maximum 10 and a half years in prison, with the last four and a half years to be determined by the Ohio Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. A 30-month term for the complicity charge was ordered served consecutively, making the total minimum nine years six months.
The complicity charge stemmed from McCanna soliciting two others to bring drugs into the county jail on June 10, 2023. In the burglary case, McCanna was originally indicted for two counts of burglary, a second-degree felony, and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony. The alleged burglaries occurred on Aug. 25, 2022 and Aug. 29, 2022 and on Aug. 29, 2022, McCanna allegedly possessed tools such as a head lamp, gloves and bolt cutters.
Also in Common Pleas Court:
— Zachary Rudder, 26, Henry Avenue, Wellsville, was sentenced to 15 months in prison, with credit for 69 days served in jail, for grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. Rudder was accused of stealing a 1999 Olds sedan belonging to Susan Baker on March 17, 2020.
— Rusty Altman, 51, Cream Ridge Road, Lisbon, was sentenced to eight months in prison for aggravated possession of drugs and possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies, and attempted violating a protection order, a misdemeanor. Altman was accused of being in a Lisbon residence on Oct. 5, 2023 when he wasn’t supposed to be there due to a protection order against him. He was accused of possessing buprenorphine on Jan. 31, 2022 and methamphetamine on June 24, 2023.
— Kaley Brandle, 33, West Lincoln Way, Lisbon, was ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center after violating the terms of her intervention plan for possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony. Her community control was continued until April 7, 2025. The charge stemmed from her possession of cocaine on Dec. 13, 2021.
— Alyssa Sluter, 33, West Oregon Avenue, Sebring, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and then was placed under drug court for up to five years. As part of the community control, she must serve at least up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center. She received credit for 33 days served in the county jail. Sluter possessed methamphetamine on July 2, 2021.
— Alyssa Coleman, 24, Campground Road, Wellsville, was ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center after her intervention plan for possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, was dishonorably terminated for violations. Her community control was continued until Sept. 30, 2025. Coleman possessed cocaine on Dec. 10, 2020.
— Autumn Goodfellow, 27, West Pershing Street, Salem, was ordered to serve 100 days in the county jail, with credit for 32 days served, leaving a balance of 68 days still to serve after her community control for obstructing justice, a fifth-degree felony, was dishonorably terminated for violations. She was accused of lying to police officers attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a male she knew on Dec. 15, 2022. Police discovered the male was inside the Washington Avenue, Salem home after she claimed he wasn’t there.
— Kristal Keyes, 40, Claibourne Street, East Liverpool, was ordered to spend 180 days in jail, with credit for 73 days served, leaving a balance of 107 days still to serve for violating the terms of her community control for attempted illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, a fourth-degree felony. Her probation was dishonorably terminated. The offense occurred on Aug. 21, 2020.
— David Christen, 53, Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, was ordered to spend 120 days in the county jail, with credit for 32 days already served, leaving a balance of 88 days left to serve in jail, for violating his probation for nonsupport of dependents, a fifth-degree felony. Christen failed to pay child support from Feb. 1, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2020.
— Donald Allgood, 35, Warren, was placed on probation for two years after pleading guilty to two counts of nonsupport of dependents, a fifth-degree felony, for failing to pay child support for two children from July 4, 2021 to July 2, 2023. He received credit for 31 days served in jail.
