LISBON — An East Liverpool man accused of breaking into Kent State University in East Liverpool and causing damage was ordered evaluated for competency to stand trial.
David Gamble, 34, Park Place, appeared recently before Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton, who granted a defense motion for a competency evaluation, which will be completed by the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio.
Gamble is facing charges in three separate cases, charged with two counts of vandalism and single counts of breaking and entering and possessing criminal tools, all fifth-degree felonies, and misdemeanors of theft, criminal trespass and three counts criminal damaging. On Nov. 29, Gamble was allegedly located on the third floor of the Kent State University building in East Liverpool, along with an ax used to break the glass door to make entry. On Nov. 24, he was allegedly seen on video inside Nikki’s Market in East Liverpool and allegedly bent the fan blades on the air conditioning unit.
Also in Common Pleas Court:
— Joshua Welsh, 24, East Fourth Street, Salem, was found not competent, but restorative at his time after an evaluation by the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio for competency to stand trial on three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony. Judge Megan Bickerton ordered Welsh to comply with the recommendation of the Forensic Center. Welsh was accused of allegedly having sexual conduct from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 21, 2021 with a child starting when the child was 13 years old.
— Alton Hauser Jr., 67, Ohio Avenue, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony lesser included offense, with sentencing set for March 18. Hauser was originally indicted for four counts of trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree felony. His plea was to a lesser offense of one of the trafficking charges. The remaining three counts will be dismissed. The charges involved cocaine on Jan. 20. 2005.
— Michael Cunningham, 43, Broadview Circle, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony attempted compelling prostitution (amended from third-degree felony compelling prostitution), and fourth-degree felony attempted unlawful sexual contact with a minor, with sentencing set for May 2. Charges of possessing criminal tools, importuning and two counts disseminating matter harmful to juveniles will be dismissed. Cunningham requested sexual conduct from an undercover agent posing as a 15-year-old female for a price of $80 and arrived in Salem on July 26 for the meeting.
— Daman Van Steenis, 32, Brunswick, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony attempted compelling prostitution (amended from third-degree felony compelling prostitution), fourth-degree felony attempted illegal sexual conduct with a minor and fifth-degree felony importuning, with sentencing set for May 29. A charge of possessing criminal tools will be dismissed. Steenis was accused of soliciting sex acts from an undercover agent posing as a 15-year-old female in exchange for $160 and arriving in Salem on Sept. 16 for the meeting with the cell phone he used to make the arrangements.
— Chelsea Rose Baker, 33, McKees Rocks, Pa., pleaded guilty to domestic violence, amended from a felony to a misdemeanor, and misdemeanor endangering children, with sentencing set for April 18. Baker was accused of attempting to cause physical harm to a child victim and creating a risk to the health and safety of the child on Feb. 20 in East Liverpool.
— Greggory Marriner, 36, Thomas Road, Lisbon, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony strangulation and misdemeanors of resisting arrest, endangering children and three counts of domestic violence, with sentencing set for March 4. Marriner was accused of strangling one victim and striking another in the head during an altercation on Dec. 1 in Lisbon, making a third victim believe she would be harmed. One of the victims was a juvenile. He also allegedly attempted to force his way out of a police cruiser and pulled away from officers during his arrest.
— Jason Christian, 43, Jefferson Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to third-degree felonies of grand theft involving a firearm or dangerous ordnance and having weapons while under disability for stealing a gun and possessing it on April 27, 2022 while prohibited from having a weapon due to a previous conviction. Sentencing was set April 29.
— Joseph White, 47, Y & O Road, East Liverpool, was ordered evaluated for placement at the Eastern Ohio Corrections Center and held at the county jail until being placed at the EOCC for violating his probation and having his treatment plan terminated for aggravated possession of drugs. White possessed methamphetamine on Jan. 25, 2022.
— Jacqueline Weingart, 39, Newgarden Avenue, Salem, pleaded guilty to illegal use of supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits or WIC program benefits for receiving benefits illegally from May 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. Sentencing was set for May 13.
— Kayla Mae Roberts, 24, Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set for May 6, for possessing methamphetamine on Dec. 28, 2022.
— Marcus Gutierrez, 44, Defiance, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set for April 26 for possessing methamphetamine on July 26, 2021.
