Grand Jury

LISBON — A Columbiana man accused of being impaired and causing serious physical harm to a woman during a traffic crash in August was served Wednesday with a secret indictment for multiple charges.

Christopher Mele, 63, Lucretia Lane, was charged by the Columbiana County Grand Jury with third-degree felony aggravated vehicular assault, fourth-degree felony vehicular assault and two counts of misdemeanor operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs (OVI).

The indictment alleged that Mele on Aug. 12, 2023 while operating a 2022 Buick Envision caused serious physical harm to Samantha Harris as a proximate result of committing an OVI. According to Common Pleas Court records, Harris was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Matthew Murphy when Mele’s eastbound vehicle on state Route 14 allegedly crossed the center lane and struck Murphy’s westbound vehicle. Harris and Murphy filed a personal injury lawsuit against Mele in September over the crash.

Also served with secret indictments Wednesday were:

— Bryan Jeffries, 35, Cannons Mill Road, East Liverpool, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on July 27, 2022.

— Cameron Yarwood, 45, with addresses listed on East Wilson Street and Roosevelt/East Third Street, Salem, two separate indictments, fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs with a specification for forfeiture of money in a drug case and fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on Sept. 1, 2022 and methamphetamine and $161 on Sept. 2, 2022.
