LISBON — A man accused of causing serious physical harm to a 13-year-old child earlier this year changed his mind about a jury trial Monday and instead pleaded no contest to a lesser charge.
Branden Endsley, 23, Woodsdale Road, Salem, entered the plea to aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony, and was found guilty by Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam, who set sentencing for Jan. 29.
Endsley was originally indicted for a second-degree felony count of felonious assault. After jurors appeared for the scheduled trial, his attorney said he wanted to plead.
The incident occurred Feb. 8 at a Woodsdale Road, Salem property where Endsley was accused of grabbing the juvenile by the arm or hand and twisting or manipulating the limb in such a way that it resulted in a “closed fracture of the phalanx of the digit of the hand,” according to a medical professional on court documents.
