THE COURTS
Court News
LISBON — A drug case was dismissed against an East Liverpool man already serving nine years nine months in prison for multiple drug counts and allegedly awaiting trial out of state for murder.
The charges in the dismissed case against Matthew R. Young, 27, included aggravated possession of drugs and possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies. Costs were taxed to the state.
According to a motion filed in support of the dismissal, Young was already serving the nine year nine month sentence for a drug case in Columbiana County, with seven years of the sentence mandatory.
Plus, Young had been charged and awaiting trial for murder in Hanock County, W.Va.
The motion said the cost to continue to transport the defendant back and forth from prison in this case would outweigh any potential punishment he could receive for the fifth-degree felonies.
