Grand Jury
LISBON — A woman accused of causing serious physical harm to a man while operating a Chevy Equinox was served Sunday with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for several charges, including aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony.
Tarah Desatnik, 38, Middle Street, Homeworth, was also charged with fifth-degree felony endangering children and two misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The charges all stem from an incident July 28, 2022.

LISBON — A Lisbon man who struck a North Market Street resident with a sword after trespassing in the occupied residence in Lisbon on June 4 was ordered evaluated for competency and sanity.
The evaluation of Jay Bauer, 36, North Market Street, will be done by the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio on competency to stand trial and enter a not guilty by reason of insanity plea, according to the order by Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton.
Bauer was indicted for second-degree felonies of felonious assault and burglary and two first-degree felony counts of aggravated burglary for the incident. According to the indictment, Bauer used a deadly weapon, a sword, to cause physical injury to the victim and trespassed in the residence to commit felonious assault. The victim suffered a small cut on his elbow and a large welt on his back.
Also in Common Pleas Court:
— Derek Johnson, 36, Youngstown, was sentenced to prison for nine months, with credit for 177 days served in jail, after being found in violation of his treatment plan for drug charges. His probation was dishonorably terminated. He had originally been placed on a treatment plan after pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl-related compound and aggravated possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies. Johnson possessed a fentanyl-related compound and methamphetamine on Aug. 6, 2021.
— Shannon Johnson, 42, McDonald Street, East Liverpool, was ordered to undergo competency restoration treatment at Heartland Behavioral Health after she was found incapable of understanding the nature and objective of the proceedings against her or assisting in her defense due to her mental condition. The decision was based on the report prepared by the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio regarding her competency to stand trial on charges of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, a third-degree felony, and possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony. Her charges stemmed from alleged possession of cocaine on Dec. 29, 2019.
— Robert Jay Gainer, 37, Cuyahoga Falls, was granted judicial release and placed on probation for three years after serving at least 30 or more days of his sentence. He had been ordered to prison for six months for a lesser offense fourth-degree felony attempted compelling prostitution and fourth-degree felony attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Gainer solicited sexual conduct from an undercover agent posing as an adult mother of a 15-year-old girl in exchange for $200, arriving in Salem on March 9, 2022 for the meeting with both females.
— Jordan Swain, 36, Mattix Road, Lisbon, pleaded guilty to charges in two separate cases, including fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs, misdemeanor possession of drugs, third-degree felony having weapons under disability and misdemeanors of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and driving under financial responsibility law suspension or cancellation. He had been indicted in 2022 for possessing hydrocodone and diazepam on Sept. 10, 2021.Then he was charged in 2023 for allegedly having a firearm in his possession and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Jan. 30 in Lisbon while under felony indictment for a drug charge. Sentencing in both cases was set for Nov. 13.
Municipal
LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing was set Aug. 28 for Michael Long, 43, West Martin Street, East Palestine, charged with second-degree felony improper discharge of a firearm at a habitation or school, a fifth-degree felony prohibitions concerning companion animals and misdemeanor endangering children after an incident in his yard on Aug. 9.
According to an affidavit, he allegedly called 911 and said his dog was hit by a train and was dead, but that the dog was still walking around the yard. While police were en route, he called 911 again and said “you will hear gunshots.” When police arrived, Long was standing in his front yard with his hands up. There was a rifle lying in the yard a few feet from him. Then officers saw a husky/yellow lab mix tied to the front porch of the residence with a gunshot wound to the chest/shoulder area. The dog was severely injured, but still alive at the time, succumbing on the way to an emergency vet while being transported by police.
Long allegedly claimed that he shot the dog one time with his rifle and that the dog had lunged at him as though it was going to bite him. Long allegedly fired the shot toward his home with his two juvenile sons inside.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Aug. 28 for Kristopher Quintero, 34, North Ridgeville, charged with second-degree felony burglary and misdemeanors of aggravated menacing, obstructing official business and disorderly conduct for allegedly kicking open a locked door an an Echo Dell Road, Rogers property on Aug. 19 and threatening to harm a woman and her sister. During the incident, he allegedly continuously used offensive, vulgar language toward deputies and the victim and did not cease after multiple requests to calm down, also interrupting as deputies were trying to talk with witnesses. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Brian Eckenrode, 42, Cresson, Pa., was fined $500 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for disorderly conduct, amended from engaging in prostitution, and possessing criminal tools. He was ordered to forfeit $120 to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force and complete 40 hours community service and a 12-hour online prostitution prevention course. Eckenrode responded to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranged to have sexual activity with a female in exchange for money, driving to East Palestine on July 4 for the meeting.
A pretrial was set Aug. 31 for Michael Reynolds, 47, Brookfield Avenue, Lisbon, charged with violating a temporary protection order for allegedly driving through the area behind the protected person’s house in Lisbon on July 19.
A pretrial was set Aug. 31 for Brian Specht, 34, Etruria Street, East Liverpool, charged with endangering children for allegedly fleeing from police at a high rate of speed with a 3-year-old child in the vehicle on Aug. 18 in East Liverpool, crashing the vehicle and causing minor injuries to the child.
A pretrial was set Nov 16 for Michael Hogan, 32, Alliance, charged with obstructing justice and obstructing official business for allegedly failing to speak with officers or answers questions during an incident Aug. 19 in Salem. When asked if he had a firearm on his person, he refused to answer and gave hand gestures where it was. The firearm was located in his waistband and secured.
A sentencing hearing was set Sept. 12 for Bernard Ritteger, 43, Elkton Road, Lisbon, who pleaded no contest to sexual imposition. Ritteger was accused of recklessly having unwanted sexual contact with an employee of a Lisbon business by grabbing her private area on July 19.
A pretrial was set Nov. 9 for Jonathan Johnson, 56, Katy, Texas, charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools for allegedly responding to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranging to have sexual activity with a female in exchange for $200, driving to East Palestine on Aug. 13 for the meeting.
A pretrial was set Nov. 6 for Jimmy C. List, 73, Edinburg, Pa., charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools for allegedly responding to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranging to have sexual activity with a female in exchange for $80, driving to East Palestine on Aug. 8 for the meeting.
Tajov Gaygysyz, 33, Mount Prospect, Ill., was fined $500 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for possessing criminal tools and disorderly conduct, amended from engaging in prostitution. He was ordered to forfeit $80 seized by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force and permitted to buy out 40 hours community service for $400. He was ordered to complete a 12-hour online prostitution prevention course. Gaygysyz responded to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranged to have sexual activity with a female in exchange for $80, driving to East Palestine on May 7 for the meeting.
Christopher Davis, 32, Alliance, was fined $700 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for engaging in prostitution, possessing criminal tools and obstructing official business. He was ordered to forfeit $250 to the Mahoning County Human Trafficking Task Force and permitted to buy out 40 hours community service for $400. He was ordered to complete an online 12-hour preventing prostitution course. Davis responded to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranged to have sexual activity with a female in exchange for money, driving to East Palestine on May 26 for the meeting.
A pretrial was set Nov. 13 for Collan Craig, 23, state Route 534, Salem, charged with assault for allegedly attempting to assault a man on Aug. 20 on Georgetown Road, North Georgetown, while in the presence of a sheriff’s deputy.
A pretrial was set Nov. 2 for Alexander Aratari, 36, last known address Washingtonville, charged with criminal trespass and possessing marijuana for allegedly knocking on a window at a property in Columbiana on Aug. 20.

A pretrial was set Aug. 31 for Rosie Faulkner, 36, West Martin Street, East Palestine, charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly arguing with everyone in the home while intoxicated and continuing, causing police to come to the residence a second time and arrest her.
A pretrial was set Nov. 20 for Sheridan Taylor, 32, Madison Avenue, Salineville, charged with domestic violence for allegedly throwing a bottle at a woman and hitting her in the face, causing injury, during a domestic incident on Aug. 18 in Salineville
Sheri Lee Kenan, 55, St. Clair Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $150 for disorderly conduct, amended from interference with custody, for falsely signing her granddaughter out of school in East Liverpool on Dec. 13 so the girl’s mother could take her, which was against the orders of the court.
A pretrial was set Sept. 18 for Ryan Pritt, 41, Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, charged with criminal damaging for allegedly using a screwdriver to scratch a derogatory word into the hood of a woman’s car on April 7 in East Liverpool.
A pretrial was set Aug. 28 for Billie Derr, 43, Youngstown, charged with possession of drug abuse instrument, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs first offense, OVI -urine, blood, serum, plasma-amphetamines, and license plate light for allegedly possessing a loaded syringe with a brown substance inside during a traffic stop in Columbiana on Aug. 12.
Jay Dinch, 64, Parkview Drive, Wellsville, was fined $875 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 87 days suspended and credit for three days served in a driver intervention program, for OVI. His driver’s license was suspended for one year, with driving privileges granted. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.
A pretrial was set Aug. 31 for Eric Shoemaker, 38, Petersburg, charged with OVI second offense, left of center and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing a snort straw and baggie with trace amounts of white residue believed to be methamphetamine and a meth bubble.
Amy Watkins, 55, Alliance, was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 160 days suspended, leaving 20 days to serve, for OVI second offense. Her driver’s license was suspended for two years and ordered to complete 20 hours community service.
Frederick Hennan, 43, West Southern Avenue, Columbiana, was fined $600 and given a suspended 180-day jail term for misconduct at an emergency and two counts of endangering children for driving around barricades to enter a closed road to an active chemical fire in East Palestine on Feb. 5 and walking down the road with two juveniles and walking on the railroad tracks.
Jody Stevens, 50, Chester, W.Va., was fined $100 for disorderly conduct for an incident Aug. 14 at the Oakmont Plaza in Calcutta.
A pretrial was set Nov. 21 for Leon Anderson, 36, Lincoln Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with theft for allegedly stealing items from the Giant Eagle on Bradshaw Avenue in East Liverpool on Aug. 13, seen on camera sticking items down his pants.
A sentencing hearing was set Aug. 31 for Herbert Jones, 46, Continental Drive, Salem, who pleaded guilty to domestic violence for threatening to kill a woman via text message on Aug. 20 in Salem. During a previous complaint, he had also threatened to physically harm her.
Elisha Binder, 24, West Third Street, Salem, was fined $400 and sentenced to 30 days in jail, with 24 days suspended and credit for three days served in a driver intervention program, leaving three days to serve for reckless operation, amended from OVI, and reasonable control. His driver’s license was suspended for 180 days. He was also permitted to buy out 60 hours community service at a cost of $600
