LISBON — The sentencing date for a former Salem woman charged for purposely setting fire to her former marital home has been moved to Oct. 23.
Rebekah Humeniuk-Shaw, 41, Leesville, entered a guilty plea recently to three counts of aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, and a single count of aggravated arson, a second-degree felony, in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
According to the felony plea agreement, the prosecution will recommend a total prison term of eight to 12 years. A fourth-degree felony arson charge will be dismissed and she’ll be required to register as an arson offender, according to the agreement.
County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino said previously that she was accused of attempting to burn down the home at 838 E. Fifth St., Salem, which had been the marital home before her divorce.
Court records showed the divorce case was filed in May 2021 by Thomas Shaw, her now ex-husband. The fire occurred a month later on June 18, 2021, as listed on the indictment.
Also in Common Pleas Court:
— Michael Howard, 37, Jackman Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to a lesser included offense of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony, for attempting to attack another man with a machete on March 16. Howard was originally charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, for the alleged attack on West Seventh Street, East Liverpool where windows were broken out of a residence and tires were also slashed. He received credit for 128 days served in jail.
— Glenn E. Collins III, 41, Longs Church Road, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to a lesser included offense of burglary, a third-degree felony, and three counts of misdemeanor violation of protection order, with sentencing set for Aug. 25. The burglary was originally a second-degree felony. The burglary and two of the protection order violations related to an incident July 22, 2022, with one protection order violation stemming from Feb. 1, 2023 to March 16, 2023.
— Michael Greathouse, 33, Akron, was sentenced to nine months in prison for importuning, a fifth-degree felony, and fourth-degree felonies of attempted compelling prostitution and attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. A charge for possessing criminal tools will be dismissed. He was designated a Tier II sex offender requiring him to register his address with the sheriff’s office where he resides after his release from prison. He received credit for 11 days served in jail. Greathouse solicited sexual activity with an undercover police officer posing as a 15-year-old female and traveled to Salem for the encounter on April 11, 2022.
— Timothy Sigler, 25, Cleveland, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony, and complicity to breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, with credit for 71 days served in jail. Sigler was accused of aiding or abetting another man in the commission of a break-in on Dec. 28, 2017 and also had in his possession a stolen 2017 Ford Taurus belonging to Kimberly Pollock.
— Kelly Jo Koons, 44, Alliance, was ordered to serve 90 days in the county jail, with credit for 64 days served, leaving 26 additional days to serve in jail for violating her intervention and community control, which were dishonorably terminated, for fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanor operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Her license had already been suspended for 12 months. Koons was charged for driving a stolen 2008 Dodge Ram pickup on March 27, 2021.
— David Boggs, 32, West State Street, Salem, was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, a third-degree felony, and aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. The charges stemmed from Boggs possessing methamphetamine and taking it into a lockup on July 30, 2022. He received credit for 25 days served in jail. The sentence was ordered served consecutive to the 36 months Boggs recently received for trafficking and possessing methamphetamine and possessing cocaine in 2021.
— Ahmed Alwishah, 66, Weirton, W.Va., was also ordered to make restitution of $800 to the victim in a case for improper use of certificate of title and petty theft, which was highlighted in a corrected court entry. He had already been fined $1,250 and given a suspended jail term of 180 days for the case besides having to permanently surrender the dealer motor vehicle licenses for himself and 3 Brothers Auto LLC. Alwishah improperly used a car title from Nov.5, 2021 to Dec. 29, 2021 and deprived a man of an $800 down payment.
Municipal
LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a corrections officer allegedly caught with a drug package dropped off in the county jail parking lot for an inmate had her case bound over to the county grand jury.
Destiny Cline, 22, Clark Avenue, Wellsville, was charged with third-degree felony illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility. After another person dropped off the package near a vehicle, Cline allegedly left the jail, went to the vehicle, looked at the front wheel and then got inside the vehicle. She was identified by a sheriff’s detective and found in possession of a lotion bottle that contained suspected crystal meth, marijuana and tobacco.
A sheriff’s detective had learned an inmate was allegedly making arrangements with a woman to drop off narcotics at the jail that a corrections officer was going to pick up in a package and take the package into the jail.
Joseph Perkins, 22, Morris Road, Lisbon, was fined $850 and sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 57 days suspended and credit for three days served for criminal damaging, physical control and driving under suspension. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and his driver’s license was suspended for one year. Perkins did donuts in a gravel parking lot, causing multiple rocks to dent a car’s doors, fenders and break the driver side mirror on Aug. 10, 2022 in Lisbon.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Aug. 10 for Bernard Thomas McLaughlin, 38, Mingo Junction, charged with fifth-degree felony improper transport of a weapon and misdemeanors of driving under suspension and marked lanes for allegedly possessing a loaded firearm during a traffic stop July 31 in St. Clair Township.
